Direwolves, they're just like regular wolves, only way more massive and a wee bit clever. Featured in George R. R. Martin's landmark fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, these near-mythical beasties are the symbols of the Stark clan and totemic creatures for the people of the North. At the beginning of Game of Thrones Ned Stark and his brood happen upon a dying direwolf on their way home to Winterfell. After a bit of pleading, the Stark children convince Ned to let them adopt her six cubs whom they christen, Grey Wind, Lady, Nymeria, Summer, Shaggydog and Ghost. Sadly, direwolves are a little harder to come by in real life, but if you do happen to stumble across one, remember, a direwolf is for life, not just for Winter!
