This is the second book in The Story Sisters by Katy & I gotta say it was fabulous. One of the stand out elements I adored about this whole book, was just how effortless it was to read. With the perfect balance of humour, tenderness & passion I was so easily sucked into Alice & Carlos’s story. The fact it also wasn't packed with unnecessary angst, truly did ensure my eyes stayed glued, my grin stayed in place & the pitter patter of my heart kept on thrumming.
Alice & Carlos are so opposite, yet actually so very similar all in the same breath. Both are desperate to succeed, to be seen, & constantly strive to gain the respect of those around them, especially the all important family who you want to make proud.
Sadly for Alice though her father can't see what's right under his nose & in one beautiful moment of clarity, this gorgeous, feisty & utterly focused woman stands up for herself & her worth. It was so refreshing to see her become who she was meant to be in that moment. Strong, determined & brave. I seriously gave her so many virtual high fives my palm hurt.
And it's right here Carlos decides that he will follow this vision wherever she goes. She stole his breath & his heart that day & over the following years, the silently lay the foundations of a future without even realising it…. And it's when that reality finally kicks that the fun begins!!
With Alice and her black & white views that she tries so valiantly not to lose lol & Carlos who sprinkles love & laughter as vibrant as a rainbow, this really was a match made in heaven. I laughed, sighed & drooled through almost every page, as this gorgeous man came into his own. He was smooth & sexy & so lust worthy, all rolled into the kind of man you would have by side forever if you could. It was adorable to see just how much he managed to break down Alice's defences, but equally just as gorgeous watching as she let him. (Happy sigh)
A wonderfully sweet, easy read for those lazy Summer Sundays in the garden.
Told from dual perspective, Alice and Carlos are very likeable characters with a sizzling attraction that heats up the pages. Alice is a strong but more apprehensive character while Carlos is someone who doesn’t mess around and makes it clear what he wants while trying to respect the boundaries around them. As stated previously, there is an age difference between these two but the age difference is never an issue to the reader as the way the author captures the two characters is with a maturity where all you note when reading is how well they compliment each other and how they respect the other given that their connection is well established having worked together for three years, her as his boss. Obviously, with her being a few years older it raises a couple of normal issues but in terms of attraction, it was never an issues, more just being seen as slightly forbidden given their opposite backgrounds, both financially and culturally.
I love Katy Regnery books and while I enjoyed this well written book, wasn’t my favourite - I just felt something was missing and kept expecting something more to happen, hence the knocked off star. Like I say, I’m not saying it’s not good, it most definitely is, and others will love it with the suave Carlos and no-nonsense Alice.
Still definitely recommend this book and will most definitely be reading more book by the author!
*I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
This is a continuation in the blueberry lane world and is the second book about the Story sisters. This being Alice' book. Sick of being overlooked for promotion by her mysoginist of a father, she walked out of his company and promised to be successful on her own. She offered a job to any of his employees willing to take a chance on her but the only taker was Carlos, mail room worker. Fast forward three years and she is enjoying some well deserved success and she hasn't forgotten Carlos' loyalty in that time. When she's offered what seems to be a fantastic deal down in Puerto Rico, Carlos, with his local knowledge goes with. Somewhere along the way lines have started to cross though.
I loved both Alice & Carlos. Alice is strong and smart but I enjoyed reading that she had a vulnerable side as well and had insecurities. Carlos was super swoony awesome and just yummy. He had his own insecurities as well which made him a bit more real to me. Alice and he came from completely different worlds, not to mention she was older than him. How could it possibly work out?
Like I said earlier this series still remains fresh and enjoyable. Some series can start to stale a little after a certain amount of books but that's not the case here. This was funny, romantic, hot and emotional at times as well. A perfect combination.
I thoroughly loved every minute of this, would definitely recommend to romance fans, and can't wait to read more from this author.
