'fabulous addition to any hikers library' -- RTE Guide 'A literary, informative, uplifting guide to walks in south west Ireland' --Irish Examiner

About the Author

Adrian Hendroff, a qualified Mountain Leader, is a photographer and writer on Ireland's mountains. He has explored the mountains of Ireland since 1999, and is one of the few to have ascended all 268 of its summits over 600 m. His articles have featured in The Irish Times Go supplement and magazines such as TGO and Irish Mountain Log. He has also walked in the mountain ranges of Scotland, Wales, England, Romania, Iceland, and the Alps and the Dolomites, but he thinks of the Irish mountains as home. His previous book From High Places: A Journey Through Ireland's Great Mountains was published in 2010.

A small and handy guidebook with a fine selection of walks, all different grades so something for every hill walker. Grid references are ideal. I've done a good few walks so far, last weekend I tackled the Reeks Ridge (no. 19 in the book) and adhering to the author's instructions, I found them very easy to follow. There's a little bit of history included for each walk, with maps and photos. There's also a map at the start of the book which shows all the walks together. I couldn't ask for a better guidebook for this area, so much so, that I've invested in the authors most recent publication; `Donegal, Sligo & Leitrim - A Walking Guide' and looking forward to tackling some of his walks up North West.

I love this walking guide. Adrian Hendroff provides very accurate and easy to follow directions. He gives ordinance survey gird locations for start points and at select locations along the chosen route together with a simple line drawing of the route that can be used for more detailed planning of your day's walking. Walks are not for the faint hearted and I would say that you could add an hour or two on to some of the walks particularly if you are less experienced on the hills. The author provides information about local folklore and place-names. I have gained a new perspective on some of my favourite walking locations in Cork and Kerry and I am aiming to complete all of the walks in the book. A little bit of heaven in the hills....

Why does eire have a differing OS system. This book is no good as the grid is not UK OS - I use a smartphone app that does not recognise this system so navigating is impossible.

This looks to be an excellent guide, but we were unable to use it because it arrived too late. Perhaps we will use it in the future if another trip is possible.
