For better or for worse, the pre-sets can only be adjusted by someone competent to take the cover off and make adjustments inside. In many circumstances, users might prefer to adjust the settings from the outside according to need at the time, and of course a thermostat would be good...... But that's another unit.
My electrician told me he ALWAYS sets the power to 1kw, not 2kw. I agree that 1kw is enough for my en-suite shower and toilet in a modern house, but hope he would permit 2kw in a bathroom such as in the Victorian farmhouse I was brought up in.
Even set to a maximum of 155 minutes, the timer is useful because it prevents expensive electric heat being wasted if the heater is left on and forgotten. I have set mine to 20 minutes because even in winter that is long enough to pre-heat the room before going in there, and if I in the meantime wander off and do something else instead, little is wasted. Using the pull cord, it is easy enough to turn the heater back on again if more heat is needed.
There isn't much to go wrong with a fan heater, so hopefully this one will be with me for years to come. If it is not, I will be adding to this review to report the matter!
The heater is great and is quiet, efficient and very good looking.
My only complaint is that it really does heat DOWNWARDS. You cannot vary its direction across the bathroom, so once out of its direction, it does become somewhat cooler.
I would hope the next design incorporates a hinged heater that you can vary its trajectory of hot air rather than just straight down to the floor.
As for Dimplex as a customer friendly company, I really cannot recommend them highly enough.
