Product Description

Review

'Dilemmas of Leadership is the textbook of choice for all Manchester Business School Worldwide leadership courses globally. It is valued by tutors and students for its 'map-making' approach to leadership development through improving decison-making and critical thinking processes.' - Nigel Bannister, Chief Global Officer & MBS Worldwide CEO

'This book does a great job concentrating on leadership topics often neglected within the academic discussion, such as leadership in project teams, symbolic aspects of leadership, or power and politics. Its particular value for students is that the complexity of these topics is highlighted and the subsequent problematic issues of leader action are illuminated.' - Ingo Winkler, University of Southern Denmark

'There has never been a time in our history when leadership has been more important. Tudor Rickards’ Dilemmas of Leadership will help each of us bring the perspectives we need to lead in the twenty-first century.' - Nancy J. Adler, McGill University, Canada

'I have completed the course of leadership at Manchester Business School Worldwide (MBSW). The book Dilemmas of Leadership is one of the best books I have ever read, not only for the academic course, but also in general. It is interesting, although not easy and is full of rich theories covering leadership, compared to other books. I have read the book several times and each time I read it, I deepen my understanding of leadership.' - Samer al Salhi, Student at Manchester Business School Worldwide

'I can say that Dilemmas of Leadership has been the most influential and inspiring book I have ever read, and the concepts presented by Tudor are applicable not only in leadership issues per se, but also in everyday decision making.' - Yaqoob Baqerpour, Student at Manchester Business School Worldwide

Praise for the previous edition:

'The book offers a refreshing look in a field in which it is markedly difficult to make significant advances.' - Creativity and Innovation Management

'This ground-breaking book on the theory and practice of leadership should be studied by all leaders and aspiring leaders. It highlights the latest approaches in the field including trust-based leadership. This text goes beyond the classroom and has much to offer those with leadership roles in corporations, schools, politics, and even the family.' - Monty Roberts, Doctor of Behavioral Science and best-selling author

'Tudor Rickards and Murray Clark have written a well-organized book that is highly accessible to students of a variety of levels. Dilemmas of Leadership also manages to be an interesting read that many researchers in the field will enjoy and benefit from. It provides a novel take on many familiar topics and issues. This is an ideal starting point for anyone wanting to dip into the voluminous literature on leadership in organizations.' - Alan Bryman, Professor of Organizational and Social Research, Management Centre, University of Leicester, UK

Format: Kindle Edition
The updates in this edition from the last are excellent. The sporting chapter gives a chance to apply the theory of the book to a practice outside of business, opening the door for a wider audience. This gives a competitive edge against other books of this type.

Also, the website that comes with the book is a nice edition as the quizzes that are at the back of every chapter are now available online. It also has a mobile site making it available on the go and ideal for the modern student (like myself)

A big increase in quality from the 2nd edition here and definitely worth the upgrade.

Tudor explores contemporary leadership themes in a way which is easy to read and digest. The material in “Dilemmas of Leadership” 3rd edition is presented in a straight forward and coherent way, inviting the reader to explore, reflect, and read deeper into situations.

Map-reading, map-testing, & map-making is the practical framework proposed by Tudor as a means for exploring situations under review, testing the evidence presented, before thinking about future events or ‘future maps’.

The book is complemented by online material and highly recommended for students of leadership, as well as practitioners with different levels of experience.

A compelling read.
