I therefore decided to give the XCSOURCE swabs a try, not least on account of the number of good reviews here, to which I am adding mine. They arrived today, and two swabs later using Eclipse fluid, my sensor is looking much better than it has done for some considerable time. The instructions are realistic, that you are unlikely to remove every spot if you look closely at a shot taken at a small aperture such as f/16, because you are unlikely to be working in a clean room environment. Yes, if you look hard at small apertures, there may be some small specks left, but this did a far better job for me than the Visible Dust swabs. These are made of a material which does not leave lint behind, and can be used for a dry dusting as well as for a wet clean. As with all swabs, they are single use, one stroke one way, turn it over then a stroke in the reverse direction, but at around £1 per time for really good results, these are well worth the money. There have been many rumours about how delicate the sensor of the 1DX Mark II is and that it may require special cleaning treatment, but this worked fine for me, and hopefully it will continue to do so: certainly as things presently stand, I feel very confident with the product.
Overall, very easy to use.... however. One star lost for the dispenser on the bottle. It's actually quite difficult to drop just a single droplet alone. The problem is that if you make the swab too wet, this will result in streaking on the sensor. If you oversaturate the swab, then I recommend you throw the swab away and try again. Because you might end up trying over and over again to dry the excess fluid off the sensor.
However, if you are careful then this product is highly recommended.
I am ham fisted and short sighted and I managed to clean my sensor with no problems, there really is nothing to be afraid of, you are actually cleaning the glass covering the sensor really. I also bought the Carson 4.5x sensorMag LED lighted Cleaning Loupe for Camera Sensor Carson 4.5x SensorMag LED Lighted Cleaning Loupe for Camera Sensor which is a must, I couldn't see any dust with my naked eye, but this showed it all up easily.
I put one drop of the cleaning liquid on one side of the swab and one on the other side. Swiped the sensor from top left to top right and then the other side of the swab back from bottom right to bottom left. Quickly turned the camera around- sensor facing down and lens back on.
PERFECTLY CLEAN SENSOR!
Love this product!
Recommend to everyone and will be using these for the rest of my life :)
If you take care and follow the instruction this will do an excellent job cleaning the full frame sensor. Highly recommended.
