Product Description

Children's shaggy dog story. Digby is a sheepdog rescued from the pound by schoolboy Billy. When Billy is told that he cannot keep the canine at home, animal expert Jeff (Jim Dale) offers to take Digby in. However, when Digby accidentally drinks a secret chemical concoction, he grows to a massive size, going on the rampage around the country. It is up to Billy and Jeff to track the enormous Digby down before he is blown up by the army or sold to the circus!

This children's classic from 1973 which seemed to be shown every holiday season throughout my childhood still charms and entertains in equal measure. It's the story of young Billy White's quest for a dog which leads him to adopt an Old English sheepdog from the local pound. Billy's Grandfather refuses to give the hound house room so he ends up giving it to Jeff, his mother's colleague from the local NATO research centre. The centre is developing a growth hormone which in a genuine mix up between Digby's feeding bowl and a potion intended for Jeff's rose bush makes Digby grow to an enormous size, which leads to a series of adventures including two bungling circus acrobats, the army and many other weird and wonderful escapades.

I must admit that I loved watching this film again and it brought back happy memories. It's nice to see two `Carry On' stars reunited - Jim Dale and Angela Douglas who play Jeff and Mrs White respectively. Spike Milligan is also excellent as an eccentric German psychiatrist who suspects strange goings on occurring in Jeff's cottage. The special effects are quite impressive for the time and it's always pleasant to see the 1970s vehicles again - the Ford Capri, Granada and of course the villains always seem to drive the requisite Jaguar! My son, who's only two seemed to enjoy it too, which is excellent. A brilliant retro treat.

Digby is a heart-warming classic film which reminds you of the love children have for their dogs! Spike Milligan and Jim Dale are excellent in the film, and very funny. As Digby grows and grows accidentally, the filming is done very well, and almost believable,(my youngest did believe it and wants a big dog like Digby!),especially for the year it was made in. The scene where Jim Dale ends up eating dog food is classic and as for when Digby digs a hole in the neighbours garden as a big dog, just hilarious! It is non stop laughter all the way. And at times almost sad and a little worrying! You cannot help falling in love with Digby in this film, I watched and loved it as a child and now my children have done the same! It is a classic film that you will want in your video collection forever. Digby should be in everyones heart and if you own this film you will just want to watch it over and over again! British comedy at its best!

Wonderful entertainment, a lovely story, which stands the test of time. My kids love it. Great performances from Jim Dale and Angela Douglas, and some super cameos from a fine cast. Watch out for Dinsdale Landen and especially the hilarious Spike Milligan as Doctor Hartz.

I was a little hesitant about watching this film because I was worried that my happy memories of watching it some 20 years ago would be shattered watching now, as an adult.

However, it was really enjoyable and although somewhat dated made me laugh and smile throughout. Of course as an adult you view a film from a different perspective, with more depth which can make or break it but this is such a getle, perfect family movie it works very well as one you can sit down and watch with the kids and enjoy a mix of emotions including tears and laughter.

Fantastic film for the family and I am happy to say watching it as an adult kept the happy memory going, rather than killing it.

This is the greatest film ever made about an overgrown dog. Starring Jim Dale and Spike Milligan and a giant dog called Digby this is must see entertainment for all the family. I only hope this gets a DVD release soon with some special features. I for one would love to know where they found a dog big enough to play the part of Digby!!! Great fun for all the family.

very traditional tale about a small boy and a dog's relationship with each other and one of the earlier stories when the dog grows as a result of a mistake in the laboratory. Undemanding but feel good - happy endings all round.

excellent film, quick delivery watched this film years ago when I was little and loved it then. I bought it for my daughter and even though it is an old film she loved it and hasnt stopped watching it. It is such a simple well made film, with comedy and no violence, a real family film.
