Product Description

Review

'The best introduction to a broad understanding and appreciation of architecture is a good dictionary. James Stevens Curl's is one of the best available.' 'Curl's dictionary informs and delights.' 'there is no better source of architectural reference available at the price' (Anthony Symondson SJ, Catholic Herald)

About the Author

Professor James Stevens Curl is a leading British architectural historian. His many stimulating studies include The English Heritage Book of Victorian Churches, Egyptomania: The Egyptian Revival as a Recurring Theme in the History of Taste, A Celebration of Death, Classical Architecture, and The Art and Architecture of Freemasonry (which won the Sir Banister Fletcher award for Best Book of the Year on Architecture in 1992). From 1970 to 1973 he was Architectural Editor of the Survey of London, and was Architectural Adviser to the Scottish Committee for European Architectural Heritage Year 1975.

An excellent buy; contains lots and lots of diagrams and history; sorts out the architecural sights you have seen but never knew their name. Well worth buying, even for the layman.

THE CONTENNT OF THIS BOOK IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO SUPPORT AN "APPRECIATING ARCHITECTURE " COURSE.
HOWEVER THE FONT SIZE IS EXTREMELY CHALLENGING FOR AGEING EYES
