Divorced crime reporter Dicte Svendsen (Iben Hjejle, High Fidelity) has returned with daughter Rose to her hometown of Aarhus where she is trying to escape the past and build a new future. Contacted by her father who hasn't spoken to her in years, a sudden and tragic turn of events finds her investigating a prostitution ring, diamond smuggling and a hit-and-run that not only links them all but will bring the unknown, the unpredictable and the deadly into the lives of both Dicte and police investigator John Wagner. Football hooliganism and match-fixing, sado-masochism and murder, missing children and a mother's lost love, Dicte is not afraid of taking risks, sometimes straying on the wrong side of the law and often risking every relationship in her life to get to the truth. These five gripping tales told over ten episodes are drawn from the crime novels of bestselling Danish author ELSEBETH EGHOLM.

The second series continues with Iben Hjejle’s Aarhus newspaper crime reporter Dicte Svendsen further exploring the underbelly of Danish society in her search for justice and a good scoop as she delves into the murky world of football hooliganism and match fixing, diamond smuggling and child abuse. However, as with the first series, despite containing some harrowing scenes and touching on some sensitive socio-political issues the main focus of the ten episodes is Dicte herself, how she tries to cope with all that life throws at her and the consequences of her acting on her own impulses. The tone of the series is similar to the previous but perhaps even more melancholic as her close friends and immediate family reveal unexpected parts of their characters. The ending of the final episode nicely sets up the third series with a heart-breaking bombshell.

Struggled through most of this thing, but couldn't make it to the end. It's become pretty glib, a cross between "Thirty Something" and "Friends" but with bombs. Takes all the feel-good, let's hug-it-out stuff from the first series and amps it way, way up. Plus, of course, the terror plot is pretty cartoonish and, compared with something like the delicate machinations of "The Bureau", well, there's no comparison. Look elsewhere for engaging drama.
