An historical fiction novel set in the seventeenth century, inspired by real events when pirates raided the village of Baltimore on the south-west coast of Ireland, capturing most of the inhabitants and forcing them into slavery in Algiers. The year is 1631 and John Seymour makes his living from fishing. Still mourning the loss of his wife, John struggles to raise a young daughter alone. They are among the 107 men, women and children forced onto pirate ships bound for Algiers in North Africa. Will John be able to keep his promise to Nadine and return to her? Will Ellyn ever see her husband again? The Diamond City is a story of courage, hope and the determination of the human spirit. It is a story that transports the reader from the lush coast of Ireland to the intense North African heat, where families are torn apart and lives changed forever.
