Product Description

THE FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS cast make the transition from Emmy Award-Winning comedy show to feature film in this spoof Horror reminiscent of Kiwi legend Peter Jackson's work. A SUPERNATURAL FORCE brings together 2 lost souls united by their love of literature, who after a sinister twist of fate are diagnosed with terminal cancer and the pair are sent to an experimental drug-testing facility run by a creepy Doctor (FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS' BRET MCKENZIE). WHEN THE FACILITY IS LOCKED DOWN for the weekend and the drugs begin to take effect, the human guinea pigs begin to experience ominous hallucinations pointing to a horrific murder. Unsure of where reality stops and the drugs have taken hold, the apparitions become more threatening and the only way to leave the facility alive is to discover the truth about the haunting dark secret.

About the Director

After cutting his teeth on Peter Jackson's team for The Lord Of The Rings franchise, Jason directed the hilarious Kiwi cult classic 'Tongan Ninja'. In his latest film he worked with the HBO Emmy-Award Winning cast from Flight Of The Conchords and directed their first feature film which has been likened to Peter Jackson's earlier works such as Bad Taste and Braindead.

Decided to watch this mainly because of the FotC cast but their parts are so brief and incidental it's hard to see why they're in it at all. The plot is weak, predictable and cliche-ridden, the main characters' acting is pretty awful, happily its only 70 minutes of your life you'll never be getting back!

I got this for christmas after wanting to watch it for ages. I cannot believe they've got away with this repackaging. It's just an old film with a new front after the success of the TV show. The film is appalling, and cannot do either the comedy or the horror very well. Didn't laugh once.

This movie promises performances from our favourite Flight of the Conchords character actors, however they are in this movie for such a short time.
The movie itself is quite funny and easy to watch, I like the whimsical nature of this Kiwi movie. Not hilarious but worth a watch.

Expecting a "Peter Jackson" style comedy-horror starring the Flight Of The Conchords? Sadly, not. Whilst it does indeed have "The Conchords" in it, their roles are incredibly minor and as for the "Peter Jackson" style - nowhere to be found. Bear in mind, I AM thinking of his earlier gore-infested, tongue-in-cheek, horrors and not the 9 hour one about the ring.

Now what the film is passable, but has a few flaws. Its a simple ghost story about a bunch of patients on a drug-trial who start to experience visions about a horrific event that occured at the hospital theyre staying in. Unfortunatly this comedy horror doesnt seem to know which side of comedy or horror it should be. There doesnt seem to be too much of either to make a full decision. Overall, it just tends to come up as weird. Not totally in a bad way, and Im sure that this will have its share of fans, unfortunately Im not one of them.

The quality of the film itself is rather decent and comes off a lot better than most c-grade horror flicks, ending up looking like a well made student project with some passable effects and shots, nothing stands out as such, but nothing really hinders either. Acting is generally okay with some acceptable cheesily played roles. The writing is where it falls flat, theres no tension and some scenes are just a little out of the blue. If this was made with a little more comedy involved Im sure I wouldve enjoyed this more, but as it is - a little flat.

Provided on the dvd are a couple of extras. The behind-the-scenes feature is worth a look and shows a decent cast enjoying what they do, there's a reel of deleted scenes with nothing noteworthy among them. Theres also a directors commentary should you wish to know more about the film. Sadly I wasnt that interested.

Bought this DVD hoping for some FotC fun, was absolutely gutted to see that Jermaine and Rhys have 1 scene each (easily the best two scenes in the whole film) and while Bret is dotted throughout the 80 minutes, he's merely a support character who plays a really poorly scripted version of his FotC persona.

All could be forgiven if there was a decent film underneath the lies on the box, but there's isn't. It takes itself too seriously to be considered a spoof, all the jokes are forced and poorly delivered, there are some shocks, but any that contain any interaction with the main characters are ruined by some truly terrible acting by the main cast.

Hard to recommend this to anyone unless you want it purely for the "hey have you seen this terrible film the Flight of the Conchords cast are briefly in" value.

The movie has a simplistic plot, perhaps as a spoof of horror movie plots which have all blended together. It is basically a comedy with a horror background. I enjoyed the role of Nurse Bates, using the infamous Bates surname. Suze Tye has a really gorgeous set of eyes which come through even as an evil nurse. The animated skeleton with smoke love making scene was original, but not clever or well done. They could have placed the animated characters into impossible positions. The beginning scene of parents attempting to bribe the teacher reminded me of the movie "Serious Man" where the bribe became a moral dilemma for the Jewish teacher, unlike this movie. The movie has sexual scenes, no nudity, and Suze Tye's eyes. I think they should use Jackie Chan and Lindsey Lohan for the American version.
