we know they have a past (hot but brief)
Can they overcome all the misunderstandings, lack of communication and hurt feelings Allowing the sexual tension to simmer.
All this being achieved as Cage tried to keep Karis safe. Loved it.

When Karis is stranded in Cancun after her room is ransacked and her personal documents stolen, she has no choice but to call her friend Cutter to help her. But when Cutter sends his brother (and her NYE fling), she has to deal with all the fireworks from their one night stand suddenly ending. Can Karis and Cage clear the air and admit their feelings before it's too late?
I enjoyed this novella. It did have a bit of insta-love going on but I went with it because this author always delivers. I look forward to her new series. Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula
Shayla has the ability to bring you into her world of words - you find new friends, old friends, places that you want to be. You get to sit back, put your feet up, relax, and let her words and your mind take you away. A respite in time where you can lose yourself to all the brilliant genius that is Shayla Black.
Cage doesn’t understand what went wrong between them but he plans to use this opportunity to find out what it was so that they can have a second chance but first he needs to find out who has stolen her passport and why.
I love these characters as Cage is so determined and protective while Kari is strong and feisty and the chemistry between them is intense.
First off, the mini story was only 66% of the book. After that the book was previews for future work. Second off, it moved waaaaay too fast had very little depth to the characters, had some of the worst dialogue I've read. Sounded fake and formulaic. Their "conflict" was contrived and their action sequence + HEA agreements at the end actually made me laugh. I was frowning then I realized that was actually the end. :-(
It would have been better off [SPOILERS] if she had focused on ONE situation --- Either flush out the conflict and make it tension and distrust filled til the end while he tried to win her over and they find out at the end that the blond chick whose dad died was no longer a threat OR make it ALL about the passport and maybe they lost touch but he happened to be in Mexican and helps her out when she's stranded and helps her figure out a mystery (stolen credit cards and passport) but please leave that evil villain action sequence at the end to another book. There wasn't space in this length for both. I am highly disappointed for both a time and money perspective. This should have been .99 at best. Sorry Shayla.
