A page turner, really enjoyed this fast paced thriller. The story felt very realistic. The short chapters make it very easy to progress quickly to the exciting conclusion. A highly recommended read. I am looking forward to the next outing for Detective Kate Bowen
“The Devil’s Luck” is a fast paced international drama, that spares no detail of the intricacies and constant maneuvering required in international terrorism investigations. I found “The Devil’s Luck,” strikingly similar to many of the Robert Ludlum novels I devoured in the 1990s. T.R. Croke’s personal experience in the arena of international police liaison, clearly shines through the narrative in the finite technical complexities and minute details of his exciting and complex tale. The spirit of law enforcement and intelligence services’ brotherhood, humor, bureaucratic struggles, and courage, surfaces repeatedly in the interactions of members of the Irish Garda, British MI-5, French DGSI and RAID, American CIA and FBI, Dutch AVID, and others. The novel’s story masterfully details the authentic tradecraft of both government services and of the splinter IRA and Islamic extremist villains; and relates the gritty experience of disenfranchised Muslim youth in France. Detective Kate Bowen, the story’s main character, is well defined, utterly human, hopelessly dedicated and driven in her mission, and has the character and complexity to grab your heart and sustain this series going forward. I’m very much looking forward to the chance to dive into Croke’s next Kate Bowen novel.
An excellent debut novel from T.R Croke. Its a plot that I have never read anything about before which interested me a great deal. This novel is very current to today's events for example Isis and all the terrorism that occurs all over the world. The characters are interesting and with a female protagonist, this was another aspect that pulled me in and kept me interested. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an exciting and thrilling read.
