What is the terrorists plot and against whom ? This is the main thrust of T.R. Croke's debutnovel in the Kate Bowen Mystery Thriller Series. Despite a relatively slow srart, establishing all the main characters, the book is fast paced and propels you straight into the world of international terrorism and crime detection.
The book is predominantly set in Ireland, France and the UK and closely follows the main character, Irish SIU operator Kate Bowen on her mission to prevent a major terrorist attack from the deadly combined forces of the Provisional IRA and Al Quaeda.
Overall I really enjoyed the book and was gripped from relatively early on. The author is obviosly very experienced in the field of crime detection and internsgional government co-operation, as a lot of the book is quite technical. However the book does lack the human interest side that I prefer in a thriller. I didn't find Kate's relationship with her boyfriend at all believable and events were swiftly wrapped up at the end of the book after the main 'event'.
That said I'm looking forward to reading the next instalment in the Kate Bowen series.
An excellent debutnovel by T.R Croke. A multinational terror plot involving the IRA and jihadis makes for an interesting read. Set across Ireland, England and France you bare witness to a collaboration between their respective agencies, and their egos!
Unlike many other novels of this genre, 'The Devil's Luck' plays particular attention to detail in the planning and excursion of covert operations. If you like technical detail, this book is for you.
The female lead, Kate Bowen, is a likeable character and T.R Croke finds the right balance of her working and social lives.
I look forward to his future work.

An excellent debutnovel from T.R Croke. Its a plot that I have never read anything about before which interested me a great deal. This novel is very current to today's events for example Isis and all the terrorism that occurs all over the world. The characters are interesting and with a female protagonist, this was another aspect that pulled me in and kept me interested. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an exciting and thrilling read.
