About the Author

Shawna grew up around farms in the heart of Missouri but went to the University of Kansas, was raised in the US but now lives on the ocean in Nova Scotia with her husband, two sons and her assortment of rescue dogs. She's a non-conformist who follows her heart. She has her BA in creative writing from the University of Kansas where one of her plays was chosen by her creative writing professor to be produced locally, and two of her short stories were published in a university creative arts handbook. She earned her MA in English from Central Missouri State University where she wrote a novel as her thesis. She's taught English at the university and secondary levels for close to twenty years and can't quite fathom how all of her students have grown up, yet she's managed to stay the same. She's a huge geek and fan of Xena, Buffy and all kick ass women, and loves to write stories that have strong female characters.

HASH(0x99d8d1b0) out of 5 stars I can't wait for the Next Book 3 Nov. 2015
By Antonio ferrre - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book was bought for my sister and here is what she thought of it:

The relationship between an (Luc) angel and a (Lilly) girl that dies and comes back to life and becomes the only communication to heaven because God disappears. She finds out she is part of an evil prophecy and can't be with her angel and is dragged to Hell. This is basically where the story begins. I never read the first book but really wish I did. I can't wait for the next book to come out. I really liked how Shawna Romkey puts in facts inside her book.

HASH(0x99d2ec00) out of 5 stars The Devil Made Me Do It - Review - no spoilers 16 July 2014
By Nancy M. Griffis - Published on Amazon.com

My first thought on finishing this book was, "She did NOT just end it THERE! ARGH!!" ... and that, of course, is the sign of an awesome book.

From the book blurb: The demons strike back!

Lily is working with the angels to stifle the last of the demon outbreaks and to figure out how to stop the Silence of God, so life can get back to boring normality. But all hell breaks loose when she's stolen from school and brought face to face with the devil himself. Lily has to find her way back home to Luc, crack the prophecy that breaks the curse silencing God, and figure out how she and Luc can ever really be together; but Lucifer has other plans for her that don't include her ever getting out of Hell intact.

The thing I liked best about this book is the same as the last one: Lily. Her character is growing up – fast, given all the insanity around her – and she’s dealing with it as best she can.

Lily’s not the only one growing. The writer, Shawna Romkey, has improved on all fronts, imo. As much as I loved the first book, you can definitely see a difference in the writing itself. I was drawn even more into Lily’s life with vivid descriptions (which I did miss a bit in book 1) and twisty bits that I can’t go into without spoiling.

The angels and demons come into their own a bit more as well. We see them more individually than in the first book, which is as it should be. The recurring characters become more intrinsic to the story instead of remaining a supporting cast. And we get a couple of great new characters to sink our teeth into, too.

And now I need to go re-read the last half of the book because I was reading too fast… really, time to re-read the whole thing since it will have to tie me over until book 3 comes out.

HASH(0x99d2eb04) out of 5 stars “Who knew Hell was such a touchy feely place?” 18 Sept. 2014
By J P Smith - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
In Book 2 of Shawna Romkey’s Speak of the Devil series, readers are swept along on a breathless ride far from the reach of angel brothers-in-arms when Missouri teen Lily has to hold her own against a diabolically tricky duo.

In THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT, Lily finds that sleeping in on the weekends is no longer an option, as she is the only communication link between the angels in heaven and on earth. If she’s not pouring over dusty rare books in a gothic church library looking for clues to the prophecy that may shed light on a silent God’s whereabouts, Lily has to keep her demon-fighting skills in shape because choosing a dress for the prom is the least of her worries.

I can’t really mention my favorite parts of this book without revealing the best things about the story. Let’s just say that Lily’s journey in this one is exactly what I’m looking for in a tale about angels and demons – life-and-death stakes, a beautifully spooky atmosphere and a very emotional set of choices for the heroine. Her adversaries are presented with the perfect macabre wit. I raced through this book, all the while wishing it wouldn’t end.

HASH(0x99d8d5e8) out of 5 stars Excellent read! 30 July 2014
By Molly Helmig - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
The sequel does not disappoint! It is action packed from the first page and I was drawn in to the story throughout the book. Strong characters and witty little quips add something extra to an already fantastic story line. I recommend this to anyone and can't wait to see what the author has in store in the future.

HASH(0x99d8d798) out of 5 stars Fantastic sequel to Speak of the Devil! 7 July 2014

*In the interest of full disclosure, I would like to state that I am an author also published by Crescent Moon Press.*
I am SO happy this was released a few days early for Kindle. I downloaded it in the airport and read almost all of it during my flight. (I would have finished but my battery died!) Romkey has delivered another fantastic tale, a page turner from start to finish. Her characterizations are simply amazing (make me feel sorry for the devil? Wow!) Fans will not be disappointed, as this is one sequel that truly delivers.
