Product Description

From the Author

Outstanding book! Cures hiccups in farm animals! Really!
Along with its sister book by Holly Lisle, SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL, THE DEVIL AND DAN COOLEY is a collaboration between the irrepressible Ms. Lisle and myself which tries to answer an ancient question. Just which ancient question we're not exactly sure. But we'll figure it out. Someday. Maybe. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

About the Author

HOLLY LISLE has been doing the pro novelist gig since 1992. Prior to that, she was a newspaper ad rep, a sign-painter/commercial artist, the “window girl” at a McDonald’s, a guitar teacher for absolute beginners, a singer at local restaurants, and because all of those together paid starvation wages, she went to nursing school the next year, and two years later was an RN. For ten years. She paid off her student loan the same year she got her first three-book contract, and...well...she’s been writing for her supper ever since. Thirty-some novels, a bunch of writing courses, short stories, and poetry, and one perpetually unfinished screenplay later, she’s now made the leap from commercial publishing to publishing herself. You can find her at HollyLisle.com. --- From an early age, WALTER SPENCE channeled his passion for life into the dramatic and literary arts. After splitting his attentions between writing for the stage and acting on it, he felt a choice had to be made. He chose writing, which had the advantage of not requiring multiple relocations in order to practice it.   In addition to his collaboration on The Devil & Dan Cooley, he has written one novel, on momentary hiatus for future revision, titled "The Caballa", which he describes as "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, as written by Stephen King." He is currently working on his labor of love, the vampire novel "House of Shadows", the first in a projected twelve volume series tentatively titled "The Breed Wars."

By Book Addict TOP 500 REVIEWER on 29 Jan. 2011
Format: Paperback
In book 2 of this urban fantasy series, it has been eight months since God answered a prayer and released thousands of demons, devils, imps and damned souls onto the streets of North Carolina. Since the big corporate shake-up in Hell's ranks, times have been tough for the weaker Hellraised still in the mortal realm, but behind every sob story could be the wicked machinations of none other than Lucifer himself.

Dan Cooley the local DJ stirs up humans and devils alike with his public plan to rehabilitate demon Puck and set him on the path to redemption. On his side are two very different girlfriends; Janna the ambitious actress who uses both Dan and the publicity he generates and Meg; a lawyer determined to grant equal rights to the Hellraised and battle the discrimination they face.

This book is very different to its predecessor "Sympathy for the Devil". It doesn't have the romantic feel of the first book; despite Dan dating two women and the story line is very unpredictable; it's many twists and turns culminating in a highly unexpected finale. The central human characters are not as likeable as those found in SFTD, but the demons are more fully expanded upon whilst the moments involving God are quirky and enjoyable.

Although not as good as "Sympathy for the Devil," Lisle's first book in this series, this second rendering of the presence of thousands of Hell's Damned Souls in North Carolina is still great fun (lover's of small dogs beware, though). The authors have already found a lot to poke fun at in these books, and, with the number of possibilities for other targets for their sharp wits, this promises to be a long and enjoyable series.

The Devil books by Holly Lisle are very entertaining. They are light, east to read and very humorus. Prudish people may be slightly offendedm, but it is really all in good fun. If you like the Myth series by Robert Aspin then you will like these and vice versa!
