Pitch Shifter ~ Deviant

Amazon.co.uk

Is there such a thing as rock anymore? It's alternative, or it's pop, or it's metal, or it's industrial, or it's techno. Or, it's Pitchshifter, who are all of the above... and then some. The influence of old-school punk like the Dead Kennedys is obvious, especially on songs like "As Seen on TV" ("When sport utility vehicles are no longer enough, you need the Terminator!"), but Pitchshifter have accomplished the difficult trick of melding several genres into a distinct sound. Perfectly at home in goth dance clubs and heavy metal mosh pits, they sprawl into head-spinning electronica experiments or straight-ahead riffage (the guitar line from "Stronger" sounds like it was written by Rob Zombie), and they're never boring. --Genevieve Williams

This latest release from Pitchshifter is an outstaning work of modern metal. After the brilliance of [...] it is hard to believe that an album of the same quality could be achieved never mind better. The riffs are powerful, the beats enchanting and the lyrics make points that need to be made! Viva la resistance, viva Pitchshifter - long may JS reign. The question is, where will PSI go now?

Pitchshifter can always rest in the knowledge that they push the boundaries out before anyone else does. Since their conception of hard core garage and techno to the well-oiled machine of techno-punk-metal they have questioned their peers and produced something different. Where pitchshifter.com left off Deviant has taken it not just a few steps further but a whole storey. From the moment Condescension rips into your speakers you know your in for a hell of a ride, Dead Battery and Wafer Thin, the intense chorus of Hidden Agenda and the collaboration with punk legend Jello Biafra on As Seen On TV give your ears something to think about. Then on to a lighter note. Everything's F**ked can only enhance the bands reputation in the music-politics arena. Lyrics about the degenerating state of society and corruption of officials set the stage for the next album which should be a blinder if the bands track record continues. Mind you they'll need to find a new record label first, shouldn't be too hard though

I really like this album. Having heard a bit of their older material, I find it difficult to believe this is the same group. It appears to me that Pitchshifter have sold out to popular rock but I really don't care. Actually I'm happy! If you like 'Industrial' and 'Desensitized' You'll hate this album. But if you like Bush, recent NIN ... then buy it. The message is a little worn by now, but here the lyrics are put forward in such a way that you can't help but like it again.

I hadn't heard much of Pitchshifter until I recently heard the most excellent "Hidden Agenda" and the phenominal "Dead Battery" on MTV 2. After hearing these songs, I took a risk and bought this album....And let me tell you, it hasn't seen the light of day, because its been stuck in my CD player for months now. With a combination of metal guitar riffs, electronic influenced guitar voices, catchy lyrics and wicked drum beats, this album has become one of my favorites! Now what do we say children? Thats right...We love you pitchshfter.

Well after being a fan of pitchshifter seemingly forever, as soon as deviant came out I just had to buy it straight away and was not at all disappointed. Never before have I heard such astonishing use of heavy guitars over such an irrelevant drum n base backing, take 'hidden agenda' for example, an amazing track that if you hear live you'll get the full benefit from. If you love any drum n base with a difference you must NOT rest until you hear this album.

To be honest this is the only Pitchshifter album I have but it's one of my favourite albums which is compaired to Nirvana,Placebo,Pearl Jam and Soulfly to name a few. Tracks like Everything's F***** and Forget The Facts are shearly awesome. This album captures all aspects of alternate rock. If you like bands like Radiohead and Prodigy then Pitchshifter are a band for you. An Easy 5 stars.

A band your more likely to see in the UK than Korn. Is this just because they tour extensively? No it's also because they have a better album and are more socially aware than the comparatively lazy 'everyone die' kings of nu-metal. The crunch of Wafer Thin and Keep It Clean are matched by the cynical commentary of As Seen On TV and Forget The Facts. Brilliant.
