Product Description

Product Description

This Amazon-exclusive box set features all the episodes in series 1 – 5 of The Detectives which ran on the BBC from 1993 – 1997. In this popular comedy show, Detective Constables Bob Louis and David Briggs demonstrate the art of being inefficient and totally unreliable policemen.

The Detectives started out as a series of short filler sketches starring and written by Jasper Carrott, which ran for two seasons in the early 90s. The sketches led to their own show shortly after. Dave Briggs (Robert Powell) and Bob Louis (Jasper Carrott) are bungling detectives under the command of Superintendant Cottam, constantly under stress from their incompetant antics. Robert Powell, usually a more classical actor, did a fantastic job as the sarcastic Sgt Dave Briggs, as did Jasper Carrott, as the even dimmer Sgt Bob Louis.

Brilliantly written and brilliantly acted series. I have long admired Robert Powell as a serious actor, and he is just as good in comedy. C'mon Amazon. How about a re-release of this boxset?

Although I have bought each individual series of The Detectives as they have been released, I am buying this box set as well. Why? Because quite simply I think this is the best comedy to have been produced since the early 1990's.

It's good, clean fun and the comedy duo of Powell and Carrot was a stroke of casting genius. I am not surprised the Beeb saw the potential of the sketches on the Jasper Carrot show all those years ago and I have come to cherish each and every episode from the series 5 year run.

Each episode is funny in it's own right. There are no real duds which usually occur in a long running series and it's wonderful to see the characters develop as the series goes on.

This box set is a must for fans of all ages, buy it for your children or your Dad or Grandad - it doesn't matter!

Top class comedy of the highest degree. A+

I have been recently filling-in on missing British Comedy Classics like Hancock, Sellers , Only Fools and Del-Boys, Dodd and Monkhouse etc, and was greatly perplexed to find this Complete Box Set no longer available..

So - I either have to look for down-loadable, free torrents, most of which are available thankfully - or buy the more expensive single series Dvd's...

Is it a no-brainer ?

IF the Beeb in all it's wisdom think it not fit that we should be able to buy certain Classic Series' by not making them available - we are forced to explore 'erm' - other avenues of availability.

Result - less income for the Beeb.
