I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book having already made some not so favourable preconceptions about the main characters, Garret and Juliana in the first book. However, Mj Fields takes everything you think you know and feel and turns it right on its head. Pretty soon into this book I was completely all in for this couple and was desperately routing for them; you wont fail to fall in love with this damaged couple.
Destroyed was a real page turner and I couldn't wait to see how this story was going to unfold. There is some pretty hard going content that will touch you and pull at the heart strings but there's also some light and humour to cut through the tension. This is a definite recommendation from me!
I'm really loving this series and I cannot wait for Grayson's book next.
She takes her time to let loose, all the horrors of her past and when I say horrors I only use that word because I don’t actually think I have a word that can adequately portray the sheer magnitude of depravity that she endured at the callous hands of her mother and step father. It was a continual barrage of abuse that was torturous and that shaped her soul, she buried her pain deep, she had little choice but when she met Garrett, it was as if she had her own personal guardian angel.
Garrett would scoff at the thought of being a hero but he was, his past like Juliana was far from idea, his abuse leaving a long-standing footprint on his soul too but he used that darkness to find a place in life that he felt he belonged in and it was there that he found the other half of his broken heart, he found Juliana.
From the outside, they may have looked like they were complete opposites but nothing could have been further from the truth but it took a lot of heartache and a very long time for them to understand that.
There are some harsh words and some very harsh decisions made by the pair of them and despite the inevitable separation that they put themselves through, there was never a time that they didn’t love each other. After all the heart knows what it wants.
I can’t say that I understood the life that Juliana had, but I can say that her suffering made me appreciate the life I have.
Garrett and Juliana will push your limits, they will test your boundaries and your sympathies but when you flip over to the last page, they will have left their mark and that in my opinion is the sign of a great book.
I spent ages thinking about how I wanted to wrap up this review and what I need to say is: Please give this pair a chance, they deserve that much!
I love how MJ Fields intermingles all her books but yet you can still read them as standalone's.
Destroyed focuses on Garrett and Juliana who were also in the previous book. Garret is the brother featured who had issues with drink and drugs and left 6 years ago.
Not wanting to add spoilers if you haven’t read the previous book either. Destroyed gives you a completely different view of both characters apposed to the ones shown in Hammered and tells Juliana and Garrett's story.
Juliana and Garrett both abused in the past, both fight their own demons, both made mistakes, both were each others saviors and first loves and forever's until Garrett leaves Juliana alone and pregnant.
6 Years later Garrett is forced to go back home by Gage his brother and he has to face Juliana again.
There's a lot of hurt between Garrett and his brother to overcome and healing to take place but the boys are determined to become a family again, the whole plan of Gage getting himself, Garret and Grayson back together is to be brothers again, Family.
Destroyed is a second chance romance were secrets are revealed, twists and turns develop, there's humorous moment and a cute little boy called Brandon. MJ Fields hits every emotion with Destroyed.
I loved the flow from the other book to Destroyed although Hammered featured Phoenix and Gage as main characters, what took place in their story had a major part also in this book and you get to see things from Garrett and Juliana's side this time.
Recommended series, The men of Steel are also featured in parts.
Love MJ Fields, her style of writing, the characters, the plots, it's addictive, looking forward to Grayson's story and I can see swoon worthy coming.
