This book made me laugh and cry, and the ending threw me for a loop. My mouth actually fell open with a silent 'nooooo!'. I cannot wait for the second book in the Timber Wolves series. Literally... cannot wait!
I was expecting the usual mediocre story telling that you tend to get for ebooks of this price, despite the fantastic reviews (because, when a book is priced so cheaply, the reviews tend to be in the 5 star range because of the value for money ratio. Those kind of books, had they been more expensive, would probably only get 3 stars at best). Although I wouldv'e liked to have seen more action (not much fast paced action happens in the first book), the humour and quality of writing (good flow, good conversation writing etc etc) was as good as and better than other professionally published books I have read.
Most werewolf/'supernatural' books take themselves too seriously, and rely on a lot of stereotypes. Destiny Binds is refreshing in a genre that is widely used at the moment. I loved the characters, the humour, the originality and the new dimensions added to a well-worn genre. It made me buy the next book as soon as I finished this one, because I truely cared about what happened to the characters. I think though, what I appreciated most about this book (and the next int he series, which I've almost finished now), is that I can't see where the story could possibly go. That's why it's great - it's not predictable, which is rare for these kind of books. Buy it! For such a cheap price, it's the best ebook I have ever bought (and I have over 90 on my kindle now, heehee).
Writing was so antagonising brilliant. And it sucked you in, made you fall in love with the characters. I even felt compassion, and shed tears, my cardigan is a bit soggy infact.
I am tempted to send my dry cleaning bill to the author as I wanted to wear this cardigan tomorrow.
Brilliant book. It filled me with love. Made me feel all mushy, and full of hope and dancing unicorns.
And then broke me in a million pieces.
Hoping book 2 glues me back together somehow.
There better be a book 2...
Timber Wolves is written from the perspective of Scout, an unusual looking teenage girl with a witty sense of humour. One of the things I love most about these books is that Scout isn't described as the perfect looking girl. In almost every other book like this, the protagonist is irritatingly good-looking. Scout seems to have an ethereal look about her which isn't classically 'beautiful' to the people of her school and town, who often gawk at her. I also love the way the book opens, it immediately draws you in with humour and, unlike a lot of books, I found myself instantly emerged into the world of the story.
The character of Alex is slightly more in-line with stories of this type; Scout often describes him as 'beautiful' and all of the girls instantly fancy him. However, there's something more to Alex which really makes you fall for him. And then there's Charlie, one of Scout's best friends for years and the guy she has been in love with for as long as she can remember. I really found myself torn between my love for both characters!
Without giving too much away, in both Destiny Binds and Time Mends, there was a moment near the end which completely took be by surprise and had silent tears streaming down my cheeks as I anxiously kept reading. There was actually several moments which choked me up a bit but these books are also filled with humour and just the right amount of action to keep you reading all night long!
