I'm CEO of a company redeveloping a small, historic UK city. I researched the subject before deciding to buy this book and have found it an excellent guide. Thank heavens for the advice to forget rushing to meaningless straplines and logos and do your groundwork properly. Adapt it to your place and get on with it!

As someone who has built brands in virtually every sector, I have always found destination branding the most challenging and exciting of them all. This is because the product itself is so diverse, it is often difficult to find something really unique and there are a multitude of stakeholders involved in delivering the experience.

Baker's book provides a concise, clear, purposeful and practical framework that destinations (not just small cities) can effectively use in defining their brand. The 7 As approach takes away much of the subjectivity in branding without ignoring the emotion that goes into its creation and expression. A must read for destination marketers. Bill, you have done it again!

This is a key addition to the literature on place brands and reputation management. Bill Baker's book draws on his own experiences of working in Australia and the US and he writes with elegance and ease - I really enjoy the way in which he adopts a common sense approach to marketing destinations - marketers and students will surely find this book invaluable reading.
