Desist, Detrans & Detox: Getting Your Child Out of the Gender Cult Paperback – 7 April 2021

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 176 ratings

Blindsided when a child suddenly announces a transgender identity, many parents today find their families under assault by an insidious predator: the billion-dollar gender industry. “Do you want a live son (daughter) or a dead daughter (son)?” Nearly every parent whose child has fallen into the gender industry’s clutches has heard the same emotionally manipulative threat: agree to your child’s immediate social and medical transition, or prepare for the child’s suicide. Schools, healthcare providers, politicians, and an aggressive activism machine are coercing people—and especially children—down a destructive path of medicalization in the name of transgender medicine. Caught in the maelstrom of gender identity politics, medical experimentation, and a cultural zeitgeist that paints the family as an oppressor, parents are lied to from every quarter, and told they must consent to their children’s gender transition and medicalization. But there is a different—and saner—path. A growing cadre of parents are saying, “No,” to the gender machine’s unethical and deceptive narrative. Based on sound principles of psychology and child development, as well as on strategies used by parents who have pulled their children back from the gender cult’s destructive ideology, Desist, Detrans, & Detox: Getting Your Child Out of the Gender Cult provides a roadmap to help families navigate the treacherous terrain of gender indoctrination, and bring their children back to reality and safety.

Recommended & essential for parents especially those new to the trans train
A great book with very useful observations, suggestions and thoughts together with some straightforward parenting advice. Some of the best advice seems so simple, logical and common sense, but when faced to deal with a sudden unexpected transidentifying or gender questioning child or teen, finding the wood for the trees and the trees for the wood is confusing and can be totally overwhelming for a parent. You will want to read lots and lots on the subject just make sure you include this book as essential reading material, and the earlier the better.

A very useful book if you’ve just been blindsided by your child suddenly announcing they are trans. There are Christian undertones to it but it doesn’t detract from the clear explanation as to how this cult has managed to embedded itself in your family and the clear advice as to what you can do about it. Much of the cult information is also covered in Steven Hassans excellent “Combatting Cult Mind Control” which I would also recommend. There are some golden nuggets in Desist Detrans & Detox though such as the new phenomenon of “Boomeranging”. There are also other observations on the gender cult characteristics that are being observed for the first time due to the research collated from many desistors and their families. Definitely worth the read in conjunction with other cult books.

Have just received this so not fully read. I'm a youth worker and so happy to have this book. Thank goodness I now have advice that I can pass on concerning what I believe is the most dangerous time for young people within my 20 years in youth work. This advice is most definitely needed.

To be clear, this is conversion therapy! And what's more, DIY, unsupported child abuse.
In the UK,this is about to become illegal for ' medical professionals ', let alone unqualified parents. Now, this is shown to cause IRREPARABLE damage to your CHILD!
This will quite literally ( A): possibly land you in jail; just as any other nonconsentual psychological experiments on children would.
And(B), will probably end in a child who never speaks to you as soon as they're able to escape you!

First of all let's get something straight, I don't think you need to ban these kinds of books. They are so obviously biased (gender cult!!!???) and filled with junk science that they are easily debunked and should be preserved as the transphobic propaganda they are. They also sell poorly.
Reading this book you can simply sense the SEETHING hatred for transgender people whose only crime is existing. This is of course hidden behind a phony concern for "the children" which forms the basis of the whole book. There is literally nothing of value in the entire book and I really feel for any young people who might be subjected to the harm that this book advocates.
Save yourself an unpleasant read and find something else that is actually intelligent and well written you have plenty to choose from.

This was a great book to read for insight as one of my grandchildren are struggling with some of these issues. The therapist recommended it to my daughter and we both got it to read and to help us in this difficult time. I highly recommend it. Insightful, education and hope filled!

Desist, Detrans, & Detox: Getting Your Child Out of the Gender Cult by Maria Keffler is definitely worth reading, particularly for parents with minor children. The book is organized into seven chapters. The first chapter explains the ways transgender ideology is cult-like in many ways. She talks about relationship skills, listening to your child, and setting boundaries. The author helps the reader understand gender ideology, how a minor child may be influenced, and how to address the misinformation the child is given during the grooming process. The last chapter is about healing the family, as other relationships in the family will need attention as well.

This book is like any self-help book in that it gives suggestions on how to help one navigate a situation. It is not hateful or unprofessional in any way. It offers a perspective, and gives parents some needed tools to navigate a situation that could do real damage to the relationships in a family.

Worth a read.

Well written. Asks insightful questions to help teens navigate peer pressure as they come into their own during puberty and beyond.
This book is essential for all parents wanting to protect thier child. It does not condemn but provides guided questions to reflect on the short and long term risks. It keeps parents in parental roles and foster relationship with gender confused children and teens.
It give practical suggestions rooted in psychological development and not pushing any religious rationale. It does take a gender critical approach which is not conversion therapy based. We owe our children the right to have these in depth conversations about what this means to them and not scripted trans ideology that they don’t fully grasp.
Thank you for supporting parents who
Want to have those discussions.
