About the Author

M.G. (Maria Guadalupe) Harris was born in Mexico City but moved to England as a young child. Before becoming a writer, M.G. worked as a scientist and ran an Internet business.

On regular visits back to Mexico, M.G. became fascinated by Mayan archaeology and made several trips to Mayan ruins in Yucatan and Chiapas. One such trip planted the seed of the idea for The Joshua Files. While recovering from a skiing accident that resulted in a broken leg, she began writing Invisible City, the first book in the Joshua Files series, on a laptop next to the bed.

M.G. is also the author of GEMINI FORCE ONE, a trilogy of action-adventure novels for young adults created with Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson and funded initially via a hugely popular Kickstarter campaign. As M.G. Reyes she has authored EMANCIPATED, a series for older teenagers.

This is an enjoyable read. The characters are colourful, credible and interesting. I was soon drawn into the plot and in fact had to download a Windows version of Kindle so that I could carry on reading when I should have been working! I liked the descriptions too - eg,"thin brown air" that "simmered". The structure of the novel contributes to its success, and the science is great fun even for those of us not versed in genetics. I recommend it.

This is a really fascinating sci-fi thriller by someone who clearly knows something about science and uses it to intrigue the reader with a lot of possibilities just fractionally into the sci-fi world without going too far. One never knows quite where the story is going next. I could hardly put it down and highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this book, my first experience of Harris, it has left me wanting more for sure.

The people and setting are rather believable, and even the fantastical elements are written in such away that you find it easy to buy into also. I got through it in no time, finding myself reading whenever I had a spare too minutes, out came the Kindle - Always a sign I'm enjoying a story when I read at every chance I get.

The ONE downfall of this book, and the reason it loses a star for me, is that I really did not like the main character/protagonist. He was well written, believable, easy to image as a real guy - I simply did NOT like/sympathise with him, he comes across as a bit of an... well, not a nice guy at all. I couldn't "root for" him, or wish him to succeed.

I'd still recommend this story to anyone who's a fan of the genre

This was great to read after reading the whole Joshua Files series, even though it is a prequel to the series, it works better to read after. I ended up re-reading the whole series, again, after completing this book. I wish MG would come out with a new series.

A great adult book from this author. I was gripped with it from the first moment. I enjoy it when a work of fiction is woven around "real" topics such as (in this case) molecular DNA, Mayan history/mythology and technology. Throw in email, the internet and a Blackberry and this brings it bang up-to-date.

The characters are convincing and three-dimensional. As seems to be usual in e-book fiction, there were quite a few typos, and I would sometimes knock off a star because of that, but this story was so good I am happy to follow the majority of reviewers to-date by giving it 5 stars.

Roller-coaster read from the bestselling author of The Joshua Files series (my 11yr old's favourites), starring a molecular scientist as the hero. Expect uber-neat technology, excitement, twists and fun. Plus so much cool science you'll want to go back to school and study better.

This is a fabulous story; fast moving; technically credible; the science is authentic but not too much for the non-technical reader; one really gets on side with the hero; a wonderful blend of modern science and ancient history mixed with the alien creation idea that has intrigued people for years. MGH clearly has great depth in her knowledge and this comes across in the quality of the story line. I couldn't put it down and I'm a molecular geneticist - trust me!

A prequel to the popular Joshua Files series, The Descendant grabs the reader from the off and the pace doesn't let up for a second.

Each twist and turn hurls the reader into an unforgettable adventure where anything is possible and nothing is quite what it seems.

With a wonderful ensemble of memorable characters, exotic locales brimming with authentically described detail, and mysterious intrigue that's constantly one step ahead of the reader's best guess, it's impossible to put the book down, and you'll be guaranteed to be left wanting more by the last page.

Looking for a thrilling summer read? You've found it!
