Product Description

Derwent Watercolour Pencils

Originating from the heart of the Lake District, Derwent has been at the forefront of developing quality, innovative fine art materials since 1832. The Derwent Watercolour range of watersoluble sticks within a wood-cased pencil offers less mess, bright colours and exciting wash effects.

The Beauty of Watercolour, The Precision of Pencil

The Derwent watercolour pencils eliminate the mess painting blocks create. When mixed with water they create a wide range of interesting colour flows yet aren't as bright as the Inktense range, making them ideal for more subtle paintings. They can be used wet or dry, on wet or dry paper, to achieve a wide variety of effects, including bright colours with soft edges when used on wet paper or rich, textured lines from a wetted pencil tip. Unlike Inktense, Watercolour is not permanent therefore colour can be re-wet and moved around the page as necessary.

High-Quality Blendable Colour

When used dry as a colouring pencil the high-quality colour pigments allow for intense colour to be created. The pencils soft texture makes layering and blending easy, creating interesting colour build and a wide spectrum of different hues and tints.

Softer Formulation for Easier Colour Transfer

The pencils are presented in a metal tin with removable lid and individual pencil slots, meaning they can easily be stored and protected. Set in a hexagonal barrel for greater control the pencils are finished in a blue livery with colour dipped ends for easy identification. The pencils are easy to sharpen and break resistant, making them ideal for long periods of use. The high-quality watersoluble colouring pencils come complete with a softer formulation meaning the pigment transfers to the paper quicker and easier creating a wide range of exciting effects from bold, vibrant images to delicate watercolour washes.

Accessorise

The watercolour art pencils work well with the Derwent range of brushes. The Derwent Waterbrush set, with three tip sizes and water barrel with constant flow valve, allow for the wash effects to be brought through. The Technique Brush set, developed to produce different painting marks, allows for greater creative possibilities. The Derwent Watercolour pads, designed for use with watersoluble media and available in A2, A3, A4 and A5, are ideal for creating, experimenting and storing work.

Presented in a lovely wooden box with all the coloured pencils you'll ever need. Blend beaufifully together or on their own. Water can be added which makes your picture look as if you have used water colour paint. Great value for your money

I got these so that I had access to the complete set of colours from derwent. It's a compact tin with just enough space to store them all safely without being too large to store. The pencils them selves are of great quality and produce some fantastic results.
A must buy if you like to use watercolours or are picky about shading.

I bought these pencils as a present for my 11 year old daughter. She thinks they are cool as you can dip them in water and they turn into watercolours yet easier to control than paints. They are good as straight forward coloured pencils and they don't chip and break like most pencils nowadays.

What a let down! Beautiful box and colour range, however the pencils do not dissolve that well, as I found out when I did a colour chart where I blended colours, also when I applied pencil to paper some pigment dots come off and wouldn't blend.
Also I found wetting the paper and using the brush and applied to pencil and putting colour on that way with some colours I had deep stain marks.
Tho I found laying up the colour helps, if u want a waxed effect, but not like watercolour paint at all.
So I brought Fabre castell box set of 36 ( albrecht dürer) and they are fantastic blend well and is more like paint, so my advise is before you buy these, get a small set of Fabre ones first and see what is best for you ( assuming if you want these you have used derwent before. I have in the past that's why I spent out on this set).
I brought a set of 24 ten years a go (there were light blue colours pencils )and I found out on one website these pencil are then new watercolour and derwent have changed the colours etc.

Derwent watercolour pencils are decent quality. Perhaps not the best quality you could ever purchase but for someone like me who just dabbles and pretends he is half good with watercolours they are fine

Fantastic pencils. The colours are wonderful, and they sharpen perfectly, but, make sure you use a good quality sharpener (I use a Staedtler), not a cheap plastic one. The pencils glide smoothly on the paper, with deep rich colour. If you have used watercolour pencils before then you will love these, because these are such great quality, and if you have not used watercolour pencils before, then you too will also love them, and will find them a joy to use. There is nothing nicer than opening a box of brand new pencils. I'm glad I went for the box of 36 rather than 24. They are lovely strong colours when used as a normal pencil and they blend beautifully with a damp brush. The mix of colours is excellent too.
