Have fun with the Derwent Grate ‘n’ Shake. This Inktense Block Grate and Shake is designed for use with Inktense Blocks. The Grate ‘n’ Shake allows you to mix paint and create your own colours. Simply grate the Inktense Blocks into water and then shake the container to mix the pigment. The Grate ‘n’ Shake is ideal for creating translucent colour washes or painting ink to cover large areas. It can also be used with Aquatone Sticks.
This Derwent Grate and Shake is designed for use with Inktense Blocks. The Shake n Grate allows you to mix paint and create your own colours.
Simply, grate the Inktense blocks into water and then shake the container to mix the pigment. This is ideal for covering large areas quickly. The Grate ‘n’ Shake is ideal for creating translucent colour washes or painting ink to cover large areas. It can also be used with Aquatone Sticks.
A History of Derwent
- 1500's - Graphite found in Borrowdale in the Lake District.
- 1832 - First recorded factory manufacturing pencils in Keswick, Cumbria.
- 1941 - Secret wartime pencil produced for aircrew in bomber command, World War II.
- 1981 - The Cumberland Pencil Museum opens in Keswick, Cumbria.
- 1982 - Derwent pencils used to create the animation in the film 'The Snowman'.
- 2008 - The company moves to a purpose built factory in Workington, Cumbria opened by HM The Queen.

Mine arrive with the grate circle off the top - I had to push it back in. It's very thin tinny metal.
The whole thing feels cheaply made; the top screws onto the base loosely; the grate part has a push-clip top that it too severe a clip, you have to push like buggery to get it on
Before you buy this item - look for a decent but cheap grater, fine, Parmesan cheese style, and a set of £1 shop cheapy containers (or ASDA £1 each clip-seal jars!)... it's a LOT better value, maybe a little dearer but so much more worth it.
This is just tat, shame on Derwent!
