Hi All,
Well I really like these, great selection of colours, been having great fun with them, you can draw first then use the brush or use directly from the aquatone stick, not good for detailed work but really great for colouring your work in.
I love the texture of them, I had great fun doing an abstract, wetting the watercolour paper first, then using a mixture of colours use a pencil sharpener and let the shavings full on the wet paper and rotate and watch the colours merge, great fun. I found them easy to hold, I was happy I bought them. Great for filling in large areas use them with
your other coloured pencils.
Bye Sandy.

excellent product. Can be used wet or dry so watercolour possibilities are diverse. Useful to take on holiday as does not take up much room. Can be used in small pieces on sides for quick coverage. useful for quick sketches and colour record but also for detailed work and on top of existing watercolours to correct and add depth. Delighted with it.

These babies are all core. No wood. Derwent claim that this delivery gives you 4 times more usable material than a traditional coloured pencil. They come in 24 colours and can be used wet or dry. You can peel back the paper cover too and use them in broad sweeps.

Not bad lightfastness - mostly 7s and 8s, but there are a few 4s and 5s and the Burnt Carmine, which is a lovely colour indeed is a 3.

Whilst it's true that this can be a little watery and can leave marks that are hard to paint out I think they are pretty good. Like everything that is new it needs to be played with a bit first:0) If you put a lot of pressure on, they will leave marks that are hard to paint out. But if you are a little more delicate and maybe use the edge rather than the point you can get lovely effects. I tried lots of mark making and mixing with varying amounts of water etc so that I was familiar with what I could achieve with these sticks. I think they are another useful addition and I would imagine kids would love them - but then children are always more ready to be adventurous.

I'm becoming a big Derwent fan on the strength of their artbars and inktense blocks, however, these aquatone pencils have left me a bit disappointed. Perhaps it is because I received them along with my inktense blocks and the aquatones (quite literally!) pale in comparison. The colours are not very strong, especially after you apply water and the pencil marks don't always disappear. You have to press them quite hard if you want more than just a hint of colour. I'll most likely use them by taking colour directly from the pencils as they seem to be stronger that way. I'm not saying it's a bad product - they're re just not what I'm looking for. I wish I had bought the inktense pencils instead. If you want just a soft hint of watercolour - you'll like these. If you are looking for stronger tones go for the inktense range.

Student quality watercolours, but lovely. You get tons of colour and they work both as pencils and as pans. You can also use them side on to get wider coverage of drawing / filling in on the paper before adding water. Brilliant idea. I love them.

I was a bit disappointed with the density of the colours when using - but there again it was the first attempt so perhaps I will develop other ways of getting the effects I wanted. A bit like a wax crayon to use and difficult to get rid of line marks. Once dry effect was a bit better. Colour range is good, but I prefer my Inktense pencils. still I got these at a very good price so nothing to moan about.

These Aquatone pencils are proving very enjoyable to use either as just pencils or converting a drawing into a painted picture. They are particularly useful for doing a quick sketch , which can then be made into a painting. This can then be worked up into something much grander.
