Currently selling at a [...], this is a no-brainer for horror fans. Best watch Motel Hell first, it's a so-so 80s effort which provided some cool pics for Fangoria at the time (man in pigs head wielding chainsaw!, human plants!) but now seems pretty tiresome between the set pieces. Deranged is a totally different beast, it has a uniquely strange atmosphere which switches from black comedy to jaw dropping horror to pathos in a heartbeat. Only downer is a pointless narrator who pops up now and again to remind us it's all based on reality - we know, now clear off. The acting is superb, the music creepy and some of the imagery unshakeable (the scene where Ezra puts his mum to bed will never leave me).
After a bit of research I discovered that the much ballyhooed cut footage in this release is no more than 17 seconds of a ropey gore effect which sounds as if it would be out of place in the narrative anyway (Ezra eating brains direct from a skull). It can be seen on the Tom Savini featurette on the extras in Blue Undergrounds Deathdream DVD if you're desperate. For me, not worth an extra 10 pounds to import the German release although I understand that completists will. Whatever, this is a highly recommended disc.

Bought this mainly for Motel Hell which I saw when I was younger, film remembered and just had to get. Haven't seen Deranged yet (one I missed seeing back in the day) but have heard good things about it. So getting two classic horror for this price was excellent. Thank you too all concerned. packaged well and received on time.

Midnite Movies are getting quite a reputation for putting special double bill horrors together- and for the most part this is a winner.

Deranged is eeriely effective and is based on Ed Gein ala Texas Chainsaw without the razzamattazz. All leads play it out well, and despite the lack of dialogue the film never feels like it drags.

Motel Hell became infamous mostly because of the 'pigman' cover that appeared on Fangoria in the early 80s.
The film certaintly has it's moments, though it's few and far between. And unlike Deranged, Motel Hell dresses itself in the hope that this will be an all out gorefest. It isn't, and neither is it scary, which leaves you feeling a little cheated. However it's not a complete failure.

All in all for the right price, this package is worth getting, but it's more geared towards the old school horror fan.
