...so the movie wouldn't be half the movie it is without such a brilliant soundtrack. I mean seriously, it really it first class... BUT... one of the best tunes of the movie is missing off the soundtrack... "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones... its the song that opens the movie... its the best song in the film & they left it off the soundtrack? Why? It's the reason I can only give the soundtrack 3 stars instead of the 4 or 5 it deserves. A real shame.

Soundtracks are at their best when they tell a story and reconstruct the mood from their movie. This soundtrack does. If I did not own it. I would buy it again.

This soundtrack is a good variations-over-the-same-theme soundtrack completely as they appear in the movie. I have listened to it every day for a month and still want to hear it more.

The soundtrack covers all the ost melodies in the movie except one. The missing tune is the one from the porn theater where Jack Nicholson makes a very amusing appearance. This tune is apparently also not on the other 'departed' soundtrack, which covers the licensed tunes not composed by Howard Shore.

The variations on the ost soundtrack are catchy and as always one has favorites. But depending on the mood one is in all the variations are nice to listen to and reconstruct the mood from the movie. Watch out for track 9, which starts out a little weird but changes completely after 40 secs.

All in all, the ost soundtrack is good entertainment at home and in the car.

Anyone who has seen the movie will know Scorcese has again picked a great compilation of songs to augment the images. I had never heard of the Dropkick Murphy's before I saw the film but I now have several of their albums and can recommend them to anyone who enjoys anarchic Irish/American rock.
I love the Van Morrison version of Comfortably Numb which is a shock because I've always hated Pink Floyd and Comfortably Numb in particular but VM's vocals make it sound like a good song.

I love this cd.
I heard of it through watching The Sopranos and hearing the Roger Waters/ Van Morrison version of Comfortably Numb. Worth buying the cd for that track alone but actually the whole cd is brilliant! !

Shore's finest work with Scorsese to date, marked with some wonderfully compelling guitar from Marc Ribot. Dark, haunting and evocative, this is film scoring of the highest order.

This album is great with some really good tunes. I have the DVD film as well and can picture the scene when listening to the soundtrack.
