Everyone in my house was hooked on this series and again the cleverness and vast information required to write this book is mindblowing. The conclusion will satisfy all fans. It has been the best series of sci-fi (best genre description) since the new millennia.

By Steve Benner TOP 1000 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 20 Nov. 2013
Format: Hardcover
With "The Demi-Monde: Fall", Rod Rees' epic four-volume steam- and cyber-punk romp comes to its rambunctious and tumultuous conclusion. This final part of the saga establishes without a doubt the author's genius as a master large-scale plot-builder and also his credentials as a consummate word-smith. With all the parts of the puzzle finally slotted into place in the three earlier volumes, in this concluding act the author can finally let rip with a denouement to end all denouements, lifting the veil on what has finally been afoot throughout the earlier parts of the story in a manner which leaves the reader reeling. The author delivers here a dramatic masterpiece that grabs its readers firmly by the lapels before hurling them headlong into a frenetic whirlwind of narrative events that pulls all of the story-threads encountered over the previous three books (including more than a few that one had hardly noticed being set up) into one searing, cataclysmic end-game that really is beyond comparison.

The writing in this volume is back to the perfectly judged mix of black humour and social pathos of the first volume, balancing the crude, the brutal and the unjust with the sensitive, the tender and the poignant. It is also very bloody clever (heck, even the book's title is clever!) It is also a measure of the excellence of the writing that even as the good characters all fall before the advancing tide of the evil forces ranked against them, the reader never really has any doubt that the good will triumph after all. Except that... well, no, I won't spoil things for you!

Mr Rees has obviously put an astounding amount of time and work into putting together the four books in the Demi Monde series. It was Mr Rees himself that got me into reading his books after I mentioned my love of steam punk and Sci Fi and I am so glad I gave it a go. Its a brilliant piece of work and should certainly be given a look at it but when you do decide to read the books be sure to read them in order. Winter, Spring, Summer then Fall. If you love historical characters, tense story telling, humour and things that really get your brain working then these books are for you. I think now I have read all four books which I can assure you are a lengthy read I now have a better understanding of the Demi Monde and I really think I will enjoy them even more on a second reading. Thank you so much Mr Rees I have loved the journey you have taken me on.

Fantastic conclusion to this story.

Love the characters, writing style and all the historical and modern references.

My only disappointment... it ended!

Definitely looking forward to his next novels.
