Delphi have again excelled at producing the complete works of a timeless, brilliant author, this time Emile Zola.

It is a treasure chest of all his work, and includes photographs of memorable places relevant to Zola. As a devotee
of his work, it is an invaluable collection and provides ease of access, to dip in to some of his lesser stories which
are faithfully reproduced.

I purchased this some twelve months ago, and it has provided me with countless opportunities to enjoy the work
of Zola. Some of his stories are morality tales, (Therese Racquin,), others are eye popping observational comment
on France in a different era,but with a salutary marker for today. All are hugely entertaining.

Full marks to Delphi. Recommended.

Reading Zola's Rougon-Macquart series of novels reveals all of human life, and one of the miracles of the modern world is being able to hold all that in the palm of your hand on a Kindle. Delphi Classics have put together yet another cracker of a "complete works", full of everything you expect from Zola's output as well as quite a lot that I (for one) wasn't even aware of. Delphi Classics books are always well produced and easy to navigate, with carefully chosen illustrations and supporting material. This "Complete Works of Emile Zola" is no exception, and I'm finding it a joy to immerse myself in these extraordinary explorations of life in 19th Century France.

Lovely to have, always a great fan of Emile Zola, I ordered this one to enable me to dip into it when at a loss on holidays. Unfortunately my eyes are progressively failing, and I find the tablet not quite so easy to read, I'm told I have cataracts, and am looking forward to a good read when these are dealt with.

Zola had somehow been missed from my teenage devouring of classic literature with the result that I now have the pleasure of delving into his work with a more mature perspective. It's powerful stuff, beautifully written in succinct prose. The Delphi compilations are unbelievably good, both in terms of their astonishing value but more importantly in the way they collate lesser known works, essays and biographical works etc in one desert island companion.

Great, I was able to clear quite a few books from my overfilled shelves and acquire a lot more that I've never read all for £1.99. I've been wanting to read the complete Rougon-Macquart books for years but many are unavailable in print in English.

Compared to other novel writers of his time, the 19th century, Zola was light years ahead of the rest in his approach to realism; including our own Charles Dickens. Having his complete works on Kindle means I can read him anywhere in the world without having to lug loads of books around with me. Miraculous.

Absolute contrast to todays fast paced yarns. Written in a time when reading was a leisure activity. The pace of each story is leisurely, taking time over detail. The story line is there; just eaked out over many pages. I'm reading this alongside more modern (short) stuff, to make me enjoy the two forms.

I like Zola.

I bought this to read the Rougon Macquart cycle of 20 novels and, so far, have only read two. The Fortune of the Rougons was a struggle as I know nothing about France's second empire. It was still a fascinating read. I've just finished Son Excellence Eugene Rougon which Zola recommended as the second book to read. On the surface Eugene really wasn't a very nice man but, in the end, I really couldn't make my mind up about him. I will say that he was surrounded by horrible people.

My only quibble is that the twenty books are difficult to navigate and there are far too many random hyphens, hence the four star rating.
