This screen is literally perfect. Well done Dell. Viewing angle isn't a problem at all, you can sit at the side and still get a great picture. No dead pixels, no bleed. Blacks don't look like someone is shining a torch on the screen any more!
As mentioned the monitor looks stunning, it's simplistic and stylish with a very thin bezel - There isn't really a bezel tbh, the screen is totally flush, its only when you turn it on that you notice the thin edging where the screen ends - I think this looks stunning and is so much better than the old chunky designs of past.
The height adjustment is also really nice and doesn't require any unscrewing or anything at the back - simply lift up or push down and it will hold into place wherever you need it. You can tilt it and rotate it too if needed.
Compared to my previous 32" LG TV, the screen is hugely improved. The resolution is obviously much higher but the clarity of text and sharpness and detail are stunning. Because of this monitor being 144 hertz it is silky smooth running applications, and you can now enable G-Sync outside of games which makes it even better.
Gaming performance is going to depend on your graphics card capability. Obviously with a 144 hertz monitor your aim is to hit 144fps. However regardless of if your graphics card can hit that mark on all games this monitor delivers smooth, responsive and gorgeously detailed graphics. If you are worried about jumping to a 27 inch from a 24 inch, don't be. If you are worried that it will lag don't be it doesn't. This is a top monitor for gaming on.
Now the anti glare........ the room that this monitor is in is a south facing room so gets a lot of sun and the anti glare is a god send. I do get light on the screen but this just makes it noticeable. For people saying it make the text look fuzzy they must be sitting about 1cm away from the screen, after all it's 1440p the text looks fantastic.
I'm running a i5 6600k 4.4 O'c
Z170 MSI gaming 7
32gb kingston hyper predator 3000mhz
Samsung 950 pro m.2 256gb
Kfa2 980ti oc black edition.
this system has no problem getting the best out of this monitor.
There is one massive down side for me. The item turned up all plugged in and the Xbox one didn't work (I know this monitor is 1440 and the Xbox is 1080 but the Xbox one will work on this monitor)in the HDMI. So i tested the PS4 this didn't work either. The PC worked great through the DP so i tried that with the HDMI and nothing, it was dead.
I called Dell directly and we went through some tests and after about 40 minutes of no luck they just turned around and said we are going to send you a replacement straight out within 2 days. If we don't have his model in stock would you like an upgrade,...... well yes please.
Dell's customer service is one of the best I've ever dealt with.
Another very little thing is once you have plugged the leads in you can see them at the bottom of the monitor which to me is very annoying as you cannot bend them enough to hide them.
Saying all that i would wholeheartedly recommend the monitor to anyone.
Anyway the monitor...Now having never used g sync or 1440p rez I have to say this is outstanding from Dell. The bezel is thin, the screen is just gorgeous, I don't really know much about IPS and TN etc but all i can say is gaming in 1440p is stunning on this screen. You do need to tweak the colours a bit out of the box but just google the settings. I was running a gtx 1070 which runs games fine in 1440p but as this screen can push 144hz the 1070 was only giving me 70-80 frames in destiny 2 which i'm playing at the minute. Bought a 1080ti and now play destiny 2 in 1440p with rendering up to 150% at 110fps and I have to say it's stunning.
No dead pixels and set up on the stand was very simple, moves around nicely for adjustment and the controls are easy to navigate. Only thing I did notice which is more a GSYNC windows thing that anything to do with the Monitor is if you use 2 non gsync screens and game on the gsync one when you ALT-TAB to desktop it can take a couple of momentary pauses and refresh as if its turning of the gsync for a moment to go back to windows, an irritation more than anything but noticeable.
Highly recommmend this screen I bought it for £510 so around there or less go for it IMO.
First of all, the DisplayPort cable that came with the monitor turned out to be faulty, but I'll let that slide because the price of a replacement cable is a drop in the bucket compared to everything else. After replacing the cable, my signal problems didn't fully go away. About 50% of the time after a cold boot, I'd get no signal and I'd have to power everything down and try again. It seemed to help if I muttered some angry 4 letter words in between, but I couldn't confirm that. The problem ended up being the BIOS of my Asus GTX 970 Strix not properly co-operating with DisplayPort (my previous monitor was using DVI which is why I had no problems until now). After flashing the BIOS on the card with the newest version that problem went away. This particular problem was specific to my graphics card, not the monitor, but I'll leave it here in case anyone with this card wonders why DisplayPort isn't working properly.
With the issues sorted I can finally go ahead and review this unit. This is the first time I've used a 144 Hz monitor and the difference is night and day compared to 60 Hz. I fired up Universe Sandbox² to gauge how things would perform and after panning the camera around, I caught myself audibly gasping at the level of immersion the extra frames were giving me. It sounds a little cringe-worthy, but 144 Hz has far exceeded my expectations and 60 Hz now feels like a laggy stuttery mess in comparison. This monitor has spoiled me.
The buttons can be a case of press and hope it does what you wanted as there aren't any visual cues for their functionality. It's a minor nitpick though, and once you get familiar with them they are easy enough to use. The stand appears to be a little flimsy in the picture, but it's actually a solid metal design and is super sturdy. The thin bezels are nice as well. In fact, I admire the aesthetics in general. These days, a lot of gaming oriented peripherals come equipped with fancy lights and bright colours. However, it seems counter-intuitive for a monitor to have those kinds of distracting designs and I really appreciate that Dell hasn't gone down that path with this.
Also, this panel I received is absolutely flawless (for the record it's an A04 unit). Not a single dead pixel. No light bleed. No flickering. No input lag. G-Sync works without a hitch. It's also a bit brighter than my old monitor which makes a huge difference during the day. I'm really impressed with the build quality.
Funnily enough, I nearly overlooked this monitor when looking to purchase one because it was incorrectly advertised as a 1080p monitor in the product description (it is 1440p). I'm glad I didn't because I've been using it for over 2 months now, and I still feel justified that it was worth every penny.
