This is a delightful performance by students of the School of Dance of the Paris Opera Ballet. They are all under 18 (well, perhaps not Pierre Lacotte, who plays the part of the doll maker Coppelius and who is nearly 70!). The technical quality of the soloists is not that of more experienced dancers, but for me they amply make up for that with their youth and enthusiasm. The sets and costumes are lovely.

The feature "Les Enfants de la Danse" is almost as long as the ballet itself, and is a documentary about the Ballet School and its students. We see them learning, practising and relaxing, but mainly we see them learning. It should be required viewing for any girls or boys dreaming of being ballet stars. If they still have the dream after seeing how much hard work they will have to do to achieve it they must be dedicated indeed.

Excellent dancing from the Paris Opera school kids set in a wonderfully traditional set.The ballet is missing the more showy numbers for the male lead and the dances of the hours.Given the abundant talent of Denis Ganio this is a pity, but Charlene Giezendammer does an excellent job as the female lead and is on stage for a most of the ballet. The rest of the cast show great enthusiasm and I would recommend this performance to everyone, even those who might be suspicious of a "school performance", as this is one of the world's best schools giving a thoroughly professional job that stands up very well on it's own.
