These Silverwood loaf tins are part of the exclusive DeliaOnline Silverwood Bakeware collection, a range that was commissioned by Delia Smith to be used along with her recipes, as well as your own recipes. To complement these DeliaOnline Silverwood loaf tins there are Silver Bake-O-Glide liners available which ensure easy baking and perfect release from your baking tins every time. The non stick properties and liners used with these Silverwood loaf tins ensure even the freshest loaves can easily be removed from these tins with no damage to the loaf itself. Silverwood bakeware has a fantastic reputation amongst bakers, both professional and domestic, and are manufactured to the highest standard within the UK. The Silverwood range is manufactured from anodised aluminium which gives excellent heat distribution and ensures these loaf tins remain rust free. Light discolouration may occur after a few uses, this is normal and forms an additional coating which actually improves the non stick coating of the tin. Very high quality, as expected of Silverwood/ Delia. Good, uniform heat distribution, ensuring bread and loaf cakes are thoroughly cooked. It looks smart, and is also quite unlike other loaf tins I have- this one is shorter in length but deeper, meaning you have a short but high loaf/cake. I guess this loaf tin fits the category of a 'traditional' loaf tin, rather than the type you see in supermarkets.
A few niggles:
1) The surfaces are not 100% smooth- one of the sides has an indentation, but I guess this is because the product is made partially by hand, adding to its 'character'.
2) It is not really non-stick. First time I made a loaf (after greasing it quite liberally) it took a lot of effort to get it out. I am hoping the non-stick will improve upon continuing use.
Here is the answer and it comes directly from "Delia Online" by a lady called Doreen who is their board moderator. She provides an explanation for the difference of tin sizes. Date of post 16th March 2013.
"The Delia online loaf tin is a 1lb Silverwood loaf tin not the 2lb Silverwood loaf tin.
Silverwood call it a 1lb tin because it makes a 1lb loaf of bread, however it is the equivalent of a 2lb tin because it holds 2lb of cake mix...."
And there you have it the 1LB Silverwood loaf tin is an equivalent 2LB cake mix tin. I just thought I'd post this to help out I hope it does.
Now for the white pleated tin liners shown in photographs for her loaf cake recipes seen in her cake book you can find these at:
As far as I can tell Amazon UK do not appear to sell these cake liners.
The tin is excellent and worth getting.
Be careful not to overfill - I followed another recipe and it rose too much while proving and overflowed all over the sides. By the time I had cut off the excess (enough to make two generous rolls) the dough had collapsed slightly and never really rose back all the way in the oven.
This was probably more my mistake than the tin, so I will give it four stars rather than three.
but I like the dimensions of the 'tin'
