At the end of Deeper, West was headed back to his home town Silt to deal with family drama and that is where this story picks up a few months on.
I completely fell head over heels for West in the first book. There is something about him that is so wild and unrestrained that makes him sooooo appealing but there is also this kind and protective side to him and it’s that sense of protectiveness over his little sister that’s driven him back to Silt. He has a lot going on in this novel and in a way it’s more about him than it is about Caroline which is the opposite to Deeper.
One thing that really stood out for me about Caroline in this book was her determination. Although this personality trait was obvious in the first book I think that now she starts to fight for the love of her life instead of fighting for her reputation that determination doubles. It might seem like she just lets West do what he likes but in actual fact it appeared more to me that she was so willing to stand by him when he needed her the most.
The story is written again in a dual POV which I love in a story but it also lends itself to this in particular as there are a lot of complex emotions surrounding the actions of the characters and understanding them from both perspectives helps to complete the reading experience.
There is a lot of self-discovery going on for both characters in this story and it is also a lot to do with faith in yourself and faith in other people. For West this meant allowing Caroline to share some of the burden that he’s carrying around. Each character has their own story but together they are so engaging that I read this in less than 24 hours.
This is the story of Caroline and West. The pair have known each other since they started college together. Their friendship starts to become something more after West gets caught up in a tangle with Caroline’s ex whilst defending her honour.
One thing I loved about this book was the fact that it was dual POV. I LOVE, seriously love, that in a book especially in the New Adult genre. I think it really works with the genre as there is usually a lot of angst going on and I love getting a glimpse of that from both sides.
Caroline and West have each got their fair share of trouble and whilst West keeps his issues close to his heart Caroline’s are unfortunately displayed for all to see. Robin has created a character who is the victim of “Revenge Porn” which is a very real issue, more so in recent times with camera phones and social media. I felt that the subject was handled in a way which showed true research and understanding of the topic and although the narrative could be dark at times it felt like Caroline’s story was very realistic.
West is such a great character to get to know. He’s quite secretive with Caroline and everyone really in general so getting to know his history and about his family life first hand was great. His story is not that of a typical college guy and it amplifies everything that is good in his character.
I loved this right from the very beginning. There is something in the writing that just draws you in and holds you there until you put the book down. It’s a real page turner right from the beginning.
I have just realised that I have already read a couple of this authors books under a different pen name and loved those too.
Have already pre-ordered the sequel!
Caroline and West have captured me and I am desperate to read the next book- all lined up ready.
Caroline has been to hell and back because of her ex posting sex pics of them on the internet. West has lived in Hell for all his life. The two of them together are perfectly imperfect.
Loved This Book- I'm off to read more.
The love scenes were well written, but in my opinion the language describing body parts was on occasion quite crass. I am in no way a prude, and there is only one word in the English language that I feel has no place in a love story. Unfortunately Robin York uses it therefore I won't be reading the sequel. A shame really, as the story held promise and with a few tweaks could be a very good book.
