I can never resist a reunion story, and Ms. Devlin pens an excellent one with In Too Deep. Gabe's feeling at odds now that his older brother's met his match and so he agrees to take a break from his ranching responsibilities. His sister-in-law's question whether there was a place or person he was missing has him returning to a campground where he has sweet memories of a place and a girl/woman who showed him what it meant to be a man.
Lena's never forgotten that summer either. When Gabe returns, she can't resist getting reacquainted with the all-too-grown-up version of that boy who stole her heart.
Ms. Devlin packs a lot of heat and heart into this novella. Lena and Gabe's attraction is potent and their passion reignites hard and fast. It's easy to see they've got serious chemistry, and it's also lovely to see how they're able to pick up threads of their emotional connection as well. Ms. Devlin writes nicely fleshed out characters with just enough plot for this length of story.
In Too Deep is the second in the trilogy about the Triplehorn brothers; I read it without having read the first, Laying Down the Law, but now I definitely plan to go back and read Colt and Zuri's story. In Too Deep read just fine on its own, but I can't help but want more of Ms. Devlin's trademark sweet heat!
This is the story of the middle brother, Gabe, who was really kind of a jerk in book one to his older brother's love interest. He's struggling with adjusting to his brother being married, having a woman in their house, and the brunt of the responsibility of running their large ranch. At the urging of his brother and new sister in law, he heads out for some relaxation and goes to the last place he felt truly free. A place he visited as a 17 year old boy who grew up a whole lot that summer.
Lena Twohig is a single mom and a teacher who spends her summers working at her grandfather's campground. She's made some hard choices in her years but for the most part she's happy with her life. When Gabe Triplehorn shows up to rent a room, she thinks he looks like someone she once knew and she's instantly attracted. However, when he says his name is Tommy she dismisses the idea that it's a boy she knew long ago.
Lena and Gabe embark on a fishing trip that turns into a passionate encounter on the riverbank. Hot, hot, hot! But when Lean discovers Gabe's identity, it goes from sexy fun to big time reality to some pretty intense hurt. I can't say too much more without giving away the story but these two have some pretty major issues to work out. While I would have liked to see them spend some more time together learning about each other as adults; I can't complain about the intense sex scenes and a pretty damn fine ending.
This is a short, erotic, and enjoyable read. In addition to Gabe and Lena, we get to check in on Colt and Zuri from book one and we get a few glimpses of Tommy as well. In Too Deep is a great addition to this series and I'm already wondering what Delilah has in store for Tommy in book three!

This unabashedly carnal read showcases another sexy Triplehorn brother who has no problem seducing the same woman he sowed his wild oats with a decade prior. The couple has no problem enjoying one another's lusty passions but their emotional connection will require a little work. The resolution of their issues is a little disingenuous and abrupt given the magnitude of the changes in their respective lives but the heat between them is undeniable. Another sizzling read that I would love to see extended into a longer tale.
