If you enjoyed Dead Island the you will almost definitely enjoy Riptide. It's not as big or long as the original but is just as much fun (assuming Zombie-bashing is your thing). There are lots of custom weapons to be made as in the first and ammo and guns are much more available in this game. The quests/missions are run in the same way as the first game i.e lots of "go here and get that for me" quests which will reward you with weapons and XP.
It is very easy to connect with other players online in Riptide and we didn't encounter any game freezes in our run through.
We did encounter a glitched trophy while collecting items. It is fairly easy to remedy if you check out the forums online but it may involve collecting all of the items again and that is why Riptide only gets 4 stars, because this game has been out long enough that it could have been patched. .

I bought this game due to the fantastic original and i was not disappointed, what i particularly liked was that you can load your character from the original game and continue from the level you reached. The enemies are varied and mobs take some good strategy or alot of brutal force to take down, the weapons are also really varied and you can adapt and upgrade as before with devastating effects. the map is large and respawn allows for infinite freeroam action. I like the addition of boats and am looking forward to the later stages of the game, i would highly reccomend this game it is incredibly addictive

I brought DEAD ISLAND out of curiosity, and enjoy it so much I have played it a number of times with each character, so when I found out there was going to be another one I couldn't wait, It has lived up. The graphics were wonderfully done, Like everyone I've read reviews but end of the day only you can decide whither or not you want to play, what one person likes another dislikes.

First off, Riptide isn't supposed to be the sequel to DI, more of an expansion pack or stop-gap game (like Hitman: Contracts was), so I will review it as such here. Riptide keeps the originals control system and skills (with a few additions) as well as introducing new weapons and a fifth playable character. It also retains its open world design, albeit smaller this time round.

You have the option of importing your character from DI which seems to be a contentious issue between gamers. For me importing is the way as it gives a true sense of continuity and the chance to fully develop your character to the maximum level 70. This means of course it is not possible to gain all the skills available so you won't end up with a super, unstoppable character. Don't think that importing will make the game a walkover though as the undead still level with you from the start. You'll always face equal if not stronger opposition, even at level 70.

Riptide has ironed out the main problems I had with the original. Weapon degeneration which was far too rapid in DI is more balanced now. It does not appear as buggy as DI either. I completed all the missions without any problems and the programmers have put more "invisible walls" in place to prevent you from getting stuck in the scenery if like to go off looking for secret areas or shortcuts. The game does play noticeably slow than DI in some places, but for me this wasn't a real problem.

There are other cool additions which I would have loved to have seen in the original. One thing was the undead never actually attacked your bases in DI, but here sieges are a part of it throughout. Your group must protect your bases from sustained assault by the hoards of undead who attack in waves.
