Yet another addition to one of my favourite lesbian led mystery series and I'm happy to see that Jane is back - if not in top form, then at least showing her presence throughout the book as opposed to a few glitches in 18/19 in this series. The mystery is good, there's a love interest -albeit problematic- and it's an enjoyable read with the mix of mystery/humour and the all-important character gallery led by her old friend Cordelia. I can see that there is a new book planned for 2015 and I hope that Jane ups her game in that one to not only be a good detective, but also be back to being a more interesting character to spend time with so the humour and intrigue is not all left to the "extras". 3.5 stars and of course a series I will continue to follow.

Wish Amazon had a 4 and a half rating! This was an excellent book - a super mystery with interesting characters to think about, lots of suspects, and great pacing. I have read most if not all of Ellen Hart's mysteries so I obviously enjoy them, but I think this is one of her very best. She just keeps getting better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep and fark and FUN! 1 Mar. 2015

A Satisfying and complex mystery, as usual by the marvelous Ellen Hart! This one had some really fascinating characters, several seemingly unrelated mysteries that took the plot to interesting places. And any old skeletons found in an old theatre can only be fun. Great job, Ms. Hart!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended 28 Nov. 2014

Excellent story and plotting; a lot of depth to the characters in this book. Ellen's on to of her game with "The Old Deep and Dark". As a resident of Minneapolis now, the details of the settings heighten the story and contribute nicely to the story. I highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars It was nice to see Jane and Cordelia again, but the mystery was a bit thin 19 Mar. 2015
By Erica Friedman - Published on Amazon.com

This book was a bit of a conundrum. The mysteries were forced, but it was nice to see Jane and Cordelia again. The most compelling part of the novel was the least pleasant - Avi and Jane's passive-aggressive relationship and the absurd idea Avi comes up with to save it. While the whole thing was annoying, it was by far the most *realistic* bit of lesbian drama I'd ever read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good Jane Lawless 11 Nov. 2014

Another solid instalment in the Jane Lawless series. A quick and fast paced read that was well worth the time. I'll keep reading as long as Ellen keeps producing to this level of quality. I do wish Jane would find a decent partner and have a stable relationship though...
