Product Description

Review

"Church's book, like others in this series, is aimed primarily at students and secondarily at their teachers. ...anyone seeking an introduction to the British motor industry and a guide to further reading will find Church's book an excellent place to start." Robert Casey, Technology and Culture

Book Description

This 1995 book is a concise and lucid review of the strengths and weaknesses of the British motor industry since its formation. Placing the industry firmly in a European context, the author assesses its achievements before 1960, and tests the various explanations which have been offered to explain its decline over the previous thirty years.

A story which has been retold in countless formats, by various authors, journalists and presenters - the tragic case of the British Car Industry. If you are new to this subject, this is a great book to start with - authoritative, academic but interesting to read. If you've read/watched/listened to this story being told by others you are unlikely to learn many new facts, but this book might just complete your collection
However, no matter how it is told - the story remains the same, utterly utterly tragic

If you are interested in reading further, this is a good place to continue ...Back from the Brink

This little book quotes a great number of treatises, dealing with the various causes of the decline of the British owned motor manufactoring industry. But there is one substantial omission. The influence of the product of the industry - the vehicles is nearly neglected. The lack of brand management, the lack of product planning and development and the problems resulting from ignoring the market are scarcely addressed.

seems very expensive for a 18 year old book who does someone not sell one for less as used prices are only 1.60 below new when take in to account deliver cost.

Why not sell your copies as surely you could memorise a book of this type with out too much diffculty

A hard slogging read with a lot of statistics. It's hard to derive any real conclusions from the overly analytical text. Better borrowed than bought.
