In operation, I would agree with everything the other reviewers have said. I have used it a couple of times; it took a 15 foot laurel down in a couple of minutes and is so well balanced that it always feels manageable and safe.
The only down side is that, rather unexpectedly, my wife has come over all proprietorial about the thing; apparently it has a "cute face", so wheras other items of garden equipment are known as "the wheelbarrow", or "the spade", this one has a name. He's now called "Jaws", gets very carefully oiled and properly maintained and together they systematically reduce bushes and branches to neat piles of logs. However I'm no longer allowed to use him.
Despite that, I would have no hesitation in recommending this product; most gardeners would be glad to have one.
The hedge was more that I or saw expected and the battery eventually died. The replacement was too expensive but I found the mains version. This finished the job easily and is enjoying a well earned retirement in the garden shed.
This is a great tool that is very capable and relatively safe to use. The mains version is more powerful and you don't stop to recharge while the battery is very portable.
Note the manual states do not use it up a ladder but cant really see why not. It worked ok and I didnt get any kickbacks like you can get from a chainsaw.
Overall very good product and would recommend. Battery didnt last as long as I had hoped but it was the first charge and the manual states it takes a few charges to get to full capacity. It probably did 80ish cuts including very large cuts before it wanted a rest.
I also used Bosch chainsaw oil as it was cheaper and the B&D oil wasnt in stock. Did the trick and worked alright so not sure B&D oil is worth the extra.
The charger is one of the standard (fairly dumb) 8 hour charger instead of one of the fast 1-2 hour chargers - but for the price I suppose that is to be expected.
However, here's a solution to consider - if you may need / may want a drill consider the 'Black & Decker HP188F4BK 18V Hammer Drill' - it comes with 2 x 18v batteries and the faster / smart charger. The batteries are interchangeable so that way you would have a total of 3 batteries and a smart charger (plus the drill of course which is good as well). For the current selling price it's a great option as two of the 18v batteries on their own are about the same price as the drill, batteries and charger package - so you effectively get the drill and smart charger for free.
So overall - highly recommended.
1) Easier to start than a chainsaw
2) The Jaws grip the wood so is great for cutting wood too small for a chainsaw
3) Clean and easy to carry (compared to a chainsaw)
