Germany released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), German ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), SPECIAL FEATURES: 2-DVD Set, Interactive Menu, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: Stefanie Powers does double duty as twin sisters in the two-part TV movie Deceptions. Stefanie #1 is a glamorous globetrotter; Stefanie #2 is a drab New Jersey housewife. On a whim, the two siblings exchange identities, leading to a dizzying series of unexpected complications. Filmed on location in England and Italy, Deceptions is too thin to be stretched over two days (it was originally telecast May 27 and 28, 1985), but Stefanie Powers can make anything work. The film is based on a novel by Judith Michaels (the joint pen name for Judith Barnard and Michael Fain); it was adapted for television by Oscar-winning writer/director Melville Shavelson, who also shared directorial responsibilities with Robert Chenault.

Deceptions is based on the novel (of the same name) by Judith Gould and centers on identical twin sisters, both played well by Powers - one a downtroden US housewife and the other a glam European gallary-owning business woman - who decide to 'swap' lives for one week, giving each a break from their lives. However an 'event' traps them in the charade, leading to danger and risk of being 'outed'...!
As with all these 80's mini-series, the locale's are great and the stories taunt and exciting. What mkes this so watchable though is Powers in the duel role, which she plays to perfection, giving both sisters an individual style.
Great stuff, top marks, and definately worth the rather expensive Marketplace prices...go on spoil yourself, 'coz they don't make 'em like this anymore!
That Ms Powers plays identical twins is, I think, fairly common knowledge. That Gina Lollobrigida gives everything she's got in her supporting role has also been mentioned before. What I don't see anywhere here is anything highlighting the terrific contribution made to proceedings by Jeremy Brett. This film was made in 1985, during the early days of his tenure as THE Television Sherlock Holmes and although this particular role is nowhere near as challenging, it is still a delight to watch him. Apart from anything else, he gets to wear some rather stylish and modern clothes which, for an actor who seemed to spend most of his career wandering through the mists of some other time, must have felt good. He and Stefanie Powers appeared together in an early episode of 'Hart To Hart' by the way, years before they made this. They have a wonderful rapport and, to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure who I'm more jealous of. And I'm certainly going to leave THAT train of thought right there.
