In a world where humans live on a planet called Harmony, abandoned by Aliens, with plenty of Alien technology left lying about, and human's who have developed special talents, lives Alice North. Alice has the unique talent of being able to make herself disappear...literally. On the run after the mother of her Ex-Husband sets out to destroy her life due to her belief that Alice murdered him, she bumps into Drake Sebastian one night who saves her from some muggers. Drake, a business mogul, is day blind after his sight was nearly destroyed in a lab accident. He needs her help, and they marry in order to avoid her ex's mother. They go to Rainshadow Island, where two other world crystals her relative helped find, and have now gone missing, creating a paranormal storm. Running from escaped carnivorous sea creatures, mutated giant insects and a mad scientist they start to fall for each other. But will they survive?
I instantly loved the character of Alice's attitude, not to mention her Houdini, her dust bunny pet. That's right, in this world dust bunny's are real and incredibly cute. The whole story is very fast paced, and well written making the whole story extremely atmospheric, with vivid imagery.
There's aliens in the form of alien technology that's been left behind, mutated insects, ghosts, romance, intrigue, suspense and a hefty dose of mystery. Yes it's a romance but it's not a romance that is all about the relationship and the gushing female and the brooding male. The story has a definite plot that's intriguing and makes the book hard to put down, the Romance for me was secondary to the actual story.
I now find myself wishing for a little pet dust bunny and a cool talent for disappearing!
This story is set on Harmony which is a future planet formerly inhabited by aliens. The aliens could not survive the conditions there and by the time the humans arrived, they were long gone leaving behind their technology and construction. This story follows Alice North and the second Sebastian brother, Drake. They meet when Drake saves her from muggers even though she had already activated her ability to disappear making it difficult for her to be found.
Drake need her help to retrieve the remaining two stones that were activating the geothermal nexus that exists at Rainshadow Island. Their ancestors had equal ownership of the proceeds from the Island and it was in their best interest to resettle the Island and it's inhabitants.
This is another good read by Ms. Krentz writing as Jayne Castle. It is fast paced and mad scientists, mutant insects and a crystal chamber all kept the story going. I completed the read in a few hours and was sorry it ended. I would love to see more stories set on Harmony. Looking forward to the next installment.
Loved the book especially as I read the other two books in this series. These are good suspense books
