HASH(0x9a17c15c) out of 5 stars Passion, emotion, a woman's swirl of desire!! 26 Nov. 2014
By S.J. Dowling - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This sequel to August Fog was simply scrumptious. At the conclusion of August Fog, you had to be sad that she left Quinn, but at the same time glad she was willing to try to make her marriage work. December Rain pulled in all of the emotion of Monica's heartbreak and her desire to make her marriage work yet her yearning for Quinn. As a woman reader, you can feel all the emotional pulls and indecisions that nibble at you while your passion is full throttle and trying to totally rule your every being. Goulden gets it all just right so that you feel it along with Monica, as only a good author can do. Like everyone else who will read this, I'm on pins and needles awaiting the next book in this series!!!
HASH(0x9a1358a0) out of 5 stars Amazing... 24 Mar. 2015

*I received a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review*

After her affair with Quinn, Monica is trying to make things work with Alex. Just when they thought the past was behind them, they run into Quinn, and all the emotions come flooding back for them: hurt and betrayal for Alex, love and desire for Monica. This time, Alex leaves after seeing a glimpse of what his wife really feels for another man. Monica eventually finds herself in Quinn’s arms again, but can she get over Alex? Can she make this relationship with Quinn work after everything that has happened? And when she finds out Quinn’s secret, will she be able to accept it?

December Rain is a completely different book than August Fog. The sneaking around and fear of getting caught is gone. Now these two lovers must try to make their love last even with all the baggage they both carry. With all the differences between the two books, I still equally loved this one just as much as I did the first one, which is saying a lot (I have been borderline obsessed with August Fog ever since I read it). We get to see more of Quinn and a deeper side to his and Monica’s relationship. Don’t get me wrong; the intensity and excitement that they have had from the beginning is still there, maybe even more so. But, there is so much more than that. What I really enjoyed in this book is that even though they clearly desire each other, their relationship is not just about sex; there is also a deep love there that continues to grow and is absolutely evident now.

The direction that this story has taken in both August Fog and in December Rain is completely realistic. These characters clearly have flaws. They aren’t perfect. Alex betrayed Monica, and she hasn’t been able to trust him since. Having an affair and falling in love with Quinn wasn’t planned, and she didn’t want to hurt her husband, but it happened. I think her confusion, her back-and-forth decisions, and her love for these two men couldn’t be more real. Monica has made mistakes, and she may have hurt people along the way, but I respect and admire her so much because all she has done is follow her heart. She obviously loves Alex and also loves Quinn, but her love for each of them is completely different. It has been so enjoyable to follow her along this journey of figuring out who she is and who she belongs with.

I cannot thank A.L. Goulden enough for writing this fantastic story. It has become my favorite series for so many reasons, but the main reason is that these characters are real to me. Goulden has brought these characters to life in a way that many authors are unable to do. I feel so invested in their lives, and I care so much about what happens to them. I’m not looking forward to this story ending.

Just like August Fog, December Rain had me feeling so many emotions; tears were shed, fists were clenched, and many smiles were spread. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Until then, I will be happily rereading the first two.
HASH(0x99d357e0) out of 5 stars GREAT READ 25 Nov. 2014
By Books and Boys - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
December Rain is written by author A.L. Goulden. It is the second book in the August Fog series. Monica Winters is her own worst enemy! She is self-destructive and very impulsive. She believes she isn’t worthy of happiness and that one mistake or bad decision will be detrimental to her happiness. She hasn’t forgiven herself for any past transgressions so she believes no one else will either. Her compulsive behavior places her in positions, which are very hard to witness.

Monica and her husband Alex are trying to hold onto their marriage after each of their extramarital affairs. While Monica and Alex are on vacation, they are surprised by the sudden appearance of Quinn. Quinn Matthews is the person Alex hates most and the man Monica can’t forget. After seeing how Monica and Quinn look at each other, Alex realizes he will never fully have Monica’s heart. After Alex moves out, Monica’s friends devise a night out to drown her sorrows. Monica drinks entirely too much and she proceeds to act like a slutty teenager! Her actions alienate her friends and she wakes up on Quinn’s couch. Now, the time she spends with Quinn is explosive!! Off the charts hot! Quinn is deeply in love with Monica. And where she is damaged emotionally, he is self-assured and strong. He believes in their love and their future. He wants to share his life with her. But because nothing is perfect…..Quinn has a secret. And instead of telling Monica, she finds out on her own. Monica has a very hard time with trust. Will she be able to look past his lies?

This book does end in a major cliffhanger! And even though I wanted to slap Monica for a lot of her actions I still loved this book. I’m really looking forward to the next installment. I hope they find their forever love!! We will just have to wait and see.

Highly recommend……4 stars!

HASH(0x99e27e64) out of 5 stars An emotional ride into the inner workings of relationships 5 Dec. 2014
By The Book Quarry - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This book is an emotional ride into the inner workings of relationships and how messed up some can be and how when you find a good one it can be beautiful even if bumpy. Monica is struggling to repair a failed marriage that only works between the sheets. She and her husband Alex can't communicate even with the mediation of a shrink. The way the author portrayed this struggle was so heartfelt and painful, it made my own stomach clench when everything went FUBAR. She ended up on the sofa of her once love Quinn, who she never forgot but had to leave behind. He has changed his life and remade himself a little too much and it has her thinking he is too good to be true. So when this passion goes combustible it is singe worthy. This couple is has a passion for each other that rivals anything I have read in a while. It is written so flawlessly. And again Monica questions its reality because it is just too perfect. So when she finds a huge secret Quinn has been keeping from her, after all the secrets she dealt with in her marriage, she doesn't know if she will be able to handle this. But one thing is for sure, now that Quinn has her back he is not letting her go without the fight of his life.

The naughtiness is pretty high in this book so be prepared for either covering your eyes or enjoying yourself thoroughly (wink). I enjoyed this emotional and sometimes painful to read novel. The inside look into Monica's relationships was intriguing. This is book 2 of a series, but is written so it can be a stand alone. I definitely would recommend it.

HASH(0x99d3d024) out of 5 stars Good Book! 25 Nov. 2014
By LJT - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
December Rain by "new to me" author A.L. Goulden, is both an erotic and slightly bizarre love story. Monica is the damaged emotional heroine, still worrying about her ex-husband Alex, while falling madly in love with Quinn, an amazing man and professional artist. Add to the mix a former high school boyfriend that is a little off his rocker, and who is also married to her best friend. And last but not least, a few girlfriends that may never forgive her wanton actions during a night of drunkenness and lunacy. It is no wonder Monica has trouble navigating through life.

Quinn is Monica's rock and his love for her is unconditional. Their passion for each other is scorchingly hot both in and out of the bedroom. Quinn wants Monica to be happy and he does everything in his power to make her feel loved and accepted, by treating her with respect and dignity. They have a lot of fun together, exploring former haunts through each others eyes, spending time with family during Christmas, and experiencing a unique form of dinner theater on New Year's Eve. Due to both internal and external factors, their relationship is stormy yet workable.

Overall, I liked this novel. It is an adult love story that kept me engaged from beginning to end. Both the primary and secondary characters are well-defined and interesting. Although I did not read the first book from the series, I did not feel lost in anyway while reading book two. Naturally, I have put the first book, August Fog, on my TBR list.
