This was more than a fall from grace for this author in my opinion, it was full pelt run and dive off a cliff into an abyss I don't think she can come back from for me. If I hadn't read her more recent work first, I'd never have touched any more books by her with a barge pole. If having the first in this series free is a marketing ploy to sell her other books, whoever advised her to do this has got it very wrong. The better advice would be to pull this "series" completely, hope that readers forget that she ever had anything to do with it and try her newer work.
I'm gobsmacked, gutted, digusted, nauseated, stunned, staggered and bewildered at just how wrong she got this. There aren't enough words to express how I feel.
The fact that the number of reviews as a whole for each book in this series diminishes as the series goes on....and on and on and on and on.... tells anyone with half a brain how genuinely fabulous it is...not!
One of the 5 star reviewers for one of the later books, (I forget which one because I lost count), says about the book, and I quote, "Shakespeare meets Jane Austen" ???!!
I'll leave the people who want to be told the truth with that little gem to help them decide just how honest and accurate they think said 5 star review is.
Anyone who does genuinely see this book as in anyway entertaining seriously needs to see a professional and quickly.
Jethro is a complicated character... and i'll admit, he's a character I've struggled to like in this book. I've also struggled a little with the basis of the story - i've questioned a lot of things while reading this book and have been left sometimes feeling like maybe... it's going too far.
I read one review that hated the ending... personally, I loved it, and it was partly the reason I downloaded the boxset when I finished.
That being said, I'm currently part way through the second book and enjoying it much more. Perhaps it's a slow starting series and I'll be back singing it's praises in a week.
