Hailing, I think, from SE London, this band perform what they call "Victorian Funk"- electronic clash with a strange collection of tinpot instruments and samples. Spot the meodica, banjo, zither, indian shruti box. spot the samples from Millican & Nesbitt (seriously!), Englebert Humperdinck and The Beach Boys.
An album that doesn't take matters forward, particularly, but which does make 40 minutes pass very pleasurably indeed. Highly recommended

this is one of those albums which you just know is destined to be a classic after the first listen. and after the second listen it's even better than that.
i've never heard a record that so effectively combines the ultra modern possibilities of cut and paste technology with the virtues of songs so fantastic they would make lennon blush. they also manage to throw so many sounds, textures, and references into 45 minutes that it makes you dizzy.
in an age where every tom, rick and harry thinks they just need to rehash a popular look and sound of yesteryear to propel themselves to "classic" status, this sounds like the future of music. it's disorientatingly new yet comfortingly warm and organic.
album of 2005 - no question.

Put this CD on in the company of almost anyone and it will be enjoyed. It's a refreshing change from the beard-stroking rut in which much of the electronic music scene resides these days. It's very musical and melodic, with some fairly dark lyrics keeping it on the right side of twee. Quite hypnotic after a few quarts/bales of your favourite poison.
