I love this series. I've reviewed earlier books in greater detail. Here I will just say Dunford tempers gritty realism with a light narrative voice and an insanely but oddly plausible twisty turny plot, and as a result creates something that is at once meaty and a light read. I'm not quite sure how she does it!
I do know I want to read the next book and also find out how the series ends.
This is an amusing and well written story of a very determined young woman who refuses to be downtrodden by those who consider themselves her superiors. Ultimately, as ever, they find themselves relying on the redoubtable Euphemia to get them out of a difficult situation.
The book is part of an entertaining series which is only let down by the number of errors in the text. The characters are well drawn, the situations are often farcical and the dialogue is well done and amusing. I recommend this book and this series to anyone who enjoys historical crime mysteries.
I am enjoying the book but notice the errors and these detract from the fun of the story. I don't remember the previous stories being like this and have not seen a printed version, so am not sure if the problems are only with the Kindle version but they do make you think it was the author's plot but written up by someone else.
Other reviews have mentioned the typos and one thought they'd been corrected - but they haven't!
This book is the Worst edited I have ever seen. There was a minimum of 1 error on Every page.
Errors such as 'that' instead of 'than' (frequently).
Wrong word - similar to but the wrong meaning for the context.
Extra words, as if blocks of text had been rearranged and left something behind.
All the errors interrupt the flow of the story as I worked through what was intended rather than what I read.
This is not the final book in the series so I find it difficult to understand why the author has been so neglectful. When the author can assure me that the rest of the series is in better shape, I will certainly carry on reading the adventures of Euphemia Martins.
I grabbed a Kindle copy of this book (really my favourite way to read these days) and loved the formatting with the footnotes. Sometimes when I grab sensibly priced ebooks I get dodgy layouts and typos but didn't see any of that here.
