Product description

Synopsis

Most of us will experience the death of our mothers. Whether we are bereaved as young children or adults, it is one of the most profound upheavals we will ever undergo. This collection of over 30 non-fiction pieces by women spans a diverse range of emotions and experiences of bereavement, ranging from hatred and relief to deepest love and despair. The common theme for all is their eschewing of conventional wisdom, both about relations between mothers and daughters and about grief. Some pieces are funny, others very raw, but all are deeply felt.

This wonderful collection of stories written by daughters who have lost their mothers. Deeply emotional and personal recollections of daughters relationships with their mothers. This book should appeal to any daughter whose mother has died, whether that relationship was good or bad, this book covers it all. My mother died very recently, and this book has helped me explore my emotions and pain.

The book itself contains a lot of negative true-life stories about daughters and their deceased mothers which I found hard to deal with. I would not recommend it to anyone who had a wonderful relationship with their Mum and is seeking reassurance from a book.

I bought this after a recommendation as my mother died when I was thirteen, and I feel an emptiness which has never been filled, despite a happy marriage and two wonderful children.
