Written by Wilhelm Grimm to the daughter of a family friend, this story remained in the possession of the family from 1816 until 1983. The tale of a mother who sends her daughter into the forest (!) to avoid a war is classic Grimm, and Maurice Sendak's color illustrations are magnificent. A wonderful read for any Grimm-loving child or for adults who haven't reread any Grimm in a decade or few. Included is a lovely Sendak print (with matte) from the book.

Wonderful illustrations by Maurice Sendak make this a book suitable for children and adults. From a marvellous period in Sendak's illustrating life. Book was in great condition and a bargain for lovers of Sendak's work.
