I've followed 'Deadliest Catch' for several years now and although I love the programme, I would never assume to know the guys we watch. Theirs is a dangerous, tiring, backbreaking - sometimes lethal - world of work that fills you with admiration and makes you pause for a moment whenever presented with a plateful of Alaskan crab. This book brings you a step closer to the real men behind the images that we watch on tv in the comfort of our homes. They are hard-working family men, proud of their Norwegian roots and refreshingly unsullied by tv fame. They demonstrate outstanding loyalty to one another, the boat and it's heritage and this comes thundering across in the book. Well written, informative and factual. Few of us will probably ever meet these guys in person but, if you respect the crew of the Northwestern and what they do, you'll love this book and it'll make you understand their philosophy and tenacity just that little bit more. As to the 'cussing' that someone else has commented on.. sorry, that's fishing for you!

If you have watched The Deadliest Catch, or are interested in commercial fishing, you will probably enjoy this very straightforward book describing the life of a hard-working family of Norwegian-Americans fishermen. Simple, honest, to the point.

Because I am such a fan of Deadliest Catch anything that gives greater insight into the boats, crews and families who make their living on the Bering Sea fascinates me. This book is no exception. A must for any fan of the programme and an interesting read for anyone.

OK I am a fan of the show, have been since the first episode. However I dont normally buy books about programs but when I read 3 pages of this on line I knew I needed my own copy. This is one of those books that you just cant put down, this book seriously kept my up night after night until I finished it.

I gives a great insight in to the history of the Hansen family, Alaskan fishing and the tough life in the American North West. It is also amusing and sad, full of life and was so good I lent it to my Mum, who read it then purchased her own copy for her home library.

This is brilliant and you should read it, even if yuo haven't seen the show!

This is a brilliant book. Knew of the boat from Deadliest Catch, which I love but the book covers a lot of Sig Hansen's family history and his dad, with nice family photos. Written in a clear, very easy style. Loved it!

I sure most people who will read this have watched the show, the book fills in the gaps . if your nosey (like me) about the Hansens. It makes the show more enjoyable when you feel you know more about the people involved.
