Product Description

Freelance photographer Frank West is stuck in a shopping centre full of zombies and heâ€TMs only got 72 hours to escape. How he manages that feat is entirely up to you, with his fate, that of dozens of other survivors and a legion of the walking dead entirel

Manufacturer's Description

Dead Rising follows the harrowing tale of Frank West, an overly zealous freelance photojournalist on the hunt for the scoop of a lifetime. In pursuit of a juicy lead, he makes his way to a small suburban town only to find that it has become overrun by zombies. He escapes to the local shopping mall, thinking it will be a bastion of safety yet it turns out to be anything but. It will be a true struggle to survive the endless stream of enemies, but players will have full reign of a realistic shopping centre, utilizing anything they find to fight off the flesh-hungry mob and search for the truth behind the horrendous epidemic.

Dead Rising features an open level of freedom and offers a vast array of gameplay possibilities. As part of a real time system, time is dynamic in Dead Rising, marching on whether Frank is actively engaged or if simply stationary. Time also plays a role as zombies become more powerful when the sun goes down. Though they move slowly during the day, the zombies become stronger and faster at night, making it even more dangerous for players to survive. The unprecedented numbers of enemies come in never-ending waves and consist of a diverse population of former humans that have retained some memory of their previous lives, which is reflected in their behaviour and appearance. The variety of different stores in the mall offers players an endless supply of resources including vehicles, makeshift weapons and more. Players will also encounter other survivors along the way and by helping them can acquire valuable clues as to what has happened.

Very good game, definately try this regardless if you think you will like it or not. its very different, there is a story line but you dont have to follow it, basically you are just encouraged to survive for 72 game hours in a shopping mall with 100s of different weapons at your disposal...the game is quite achievement based as you play the game through aiming at certain points such as zombie genocider kill 53000 odd zombies (the population of the city) or psycopath killer (survivors who've gone a bit crazy due to the infestation), you can also try to save sane survivors by escorting them back to your security room where you intend to take them with you when the helicopter arrives...but this may change as the game has something like 8 different endings, some of which unlock extra modes like another 24 hours and then infinity mode.... enjoy

There have been many comparisons to what this game is like, is it gta with zombies? is it resident evil without the dark areas and jumping moments, and to be quite honest it defines itself in a new genre, just like shaun of the dead did being a rom-com-zom (romantic comedy zombie film) this is a zom-rpg-tps-zandbox hybrid (zombie, role-playing, third person shooter, open-ended game)

The story is as you'd expect from a dawn of the dead knock-off, Frank West (the main character you control) is a reporter who hears about the story of a lifetime and so gets dropped off by helicopter into this town (unbeknown by him at the time populated by zombies) and tells the helicopter driver to pick him up in three days, and then the story goes from there. The great advantage with this game and it's biggest weakness is this system, you have a 72hour limit in which you can create your own path, want to know how this zombie epidemic occured? or do you just want to mash up zombie's mindlessly? the choice is completely down to you, but the problem is you don't have the chance to really do both, there are multiple endings to the game which may insight some gamers to try out different things, but there's mostly no point.

The gameplay is either great or incredibly fustrating depending on your view, generally most actions/attacks are done with the X button, this makes it easy but it can sometimes feeling like a button masher, Frank will upgrade and become stronger with or without weapons by doing certain tasks like killing lots and lots and lots of zombies or rescuing other survivors throughout the mall - these parts tend to be the most annoying part of the game, but are again optional.

This is a fun game from Capcom , the makers of Resident Evil where you must survive a zombie invasion while trapped in a shopping mall !

You have alot of freedom in this game , if you want you can avoid the story all together and just do whatever you want in the mall until the time runs out.

You can use almost anything in the mall as a weapon and there can be hundreds of zombies on the screen at a time !

The controls may seem awkward at first but once you get past them , you'll be having hours of zombie bashing fun with this game.

The text size may be abit small for those with small screen standard definition TVs too. Alot of the game revolves around reading text , so it may be a problem.

Other than these small flaws this is a very enjoyable game for anybody willing to look past and adapt to these minor imperfections.

This game is easily one of the most unique gems on Xbox 360.

This game isn't your typical Resident Evil like offering, or other zombie survival horror game but it is still enjoyable. The movie-like storyline keeps the game interesting, as does the photography element to the game and the rescuing of other survivors. Basically you are dropped off at a mall and have to wait 72 hours for the chopper to return. You have three choices of what to do in that time; just go around killing zombies, rescue some of the other survivors and lead them to safety or try and discover how the outbreak started with some of the other survivors.

Being played from a third person perspective, along with the control, weapons, cars and bikes (yes you can use vehicles in the mall) does make it very much like GTA with Zombies and it also gives the freedom to have to gruesome fun and wander round massacring zombies with the wide variety of weapons. It is possible to kill zombies with CDs, coat hangers, swords, battle axes, shovels, chainsaws, hoes, baseball bats, hockey sticks - you name it! You can even use a football to knock them down like skittles, a gun that shoots tennis balls and a kids lightsaber like sword. This is fun for a while but it is the main story line that keeps it interesting.

Sadly while the main storyline is fairly good, if any thing goes wrong, e.g. you don't make it somewhere in time or someone dies - it is game over as far as the storyline is concerned. There are no second chances, to continue with the story you'd have to reload your last save, which brings me to the worst part of the game - saving.

When I read other reviews I thought, how hard can it be to get to a toilet or back to the start to save? Well believe me it is hard.
