As suspect by suspect convinces you one way and then the other this highly intense mystery killing will keep you on the edge of your seat. Is Lalla Bains at the wrong place repeatedly or does her arrests and circumstances create a greater comprehensive picture? There will be many questions to ponder on as sneaky moves leave an unsettling feeling. As you uncover if the killer could be the restaurant owner himself, his daughter, or someone not too far from camp, Author R.P. Dahlke will skillfully toss you around like a rag doll with evidence hitting you on every turn.
Crime solvers- this is a must read to add insights into hearts and motives. Author Dahlke invites you to journey into her books in this series as well as previous and soon to be releases. I recommend this book with a high 5- star rating.
And so we meet up with our favorite heroine Lalla Bains, tall, blond and beautiful ex-model turned crop-duster from Modesto, California, and as usually the case Dahlke offers her own synopsis at the opening of her books- better written than any PR person: ` Lalla Bains is done with Billy Wayne's lovesick antics. The last straw comes when he litters her beloved red Cadillac with poetry scrawled on paper snowflakes, but that doesn't mean she wants the homeless war veteran to drop dead at her feet--with a pair of blue handled scissors sticking out of his chest. High fashion model turned aero-ag pilot, Lalla Bains certainly doesn't need any more distractions during the simmering summers in the San Joaquin Valley of California. She's got troubles enough: Her tight-wad, widowed father is now a born-again lady's man, a disreputable crop-dusting competitor threatens her business, and last but not least, she worries about the sultry redhead in the local police department taking more than a professional interest in her honey, Sheriff Caleb Stone. But being the exasperating, pushy, tenacious gal she is, Lalla believes the dead man deserves a better homicide investigation than that of the creepy Modesto detective who seems to slither across her path every chance he gets.' This is enough of a synopsis to lead any reader (especially if already a RP Dahlke fan) to grab this speedy read and escape reality for Dahlke's far more preposterous and entertaining world.
The more you read of RP Dahlke's book the more you accept that she is a polished storyteller, having that innate sense of the need for humor inserted into her mysteries that helps not only propel them along, but also keeps our attention during the rest stops. And while producing suspense about a very complicated crime, she lets her stories breathe with characters form family, friends and loves that allow us to build faith in the somewhat quirky character of Lalla Bains, a trait that practically guarantees that readers will follow the other books in this Dead Red Mysteries series. This is a very strong, immensely satisfying, idiosyncratic and entertaining mystery novel. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, September 14
Our main character Lalla Baines, has a secret admirer. So much so that he uses her red Cadillac as an outlet for his snowflake poetry, which is rather poetic itself. However, when Lalla finds him dead, she is perhaps to blame according to some since she was the unwanted love recipient. Not to mention she is the one who found him right by the red Cadillac with scissors sticking out of his chest.
I enjoyed the book as well as the characters. I also found out this is just one of the seven books available which means if you enjoy it like I did, there is plenty more to read!
