Product description

About the Author

I sort of fell into the job of running a crop-dusting business when my dad decided he’d rather go on a cruise than take another season of lazy pilots, missing flaggers, testy farmers and horrific hours. After two years at the helm, I handed him back the keys and fled to a city without any of the above. And no, I was never a crop-duster. I write about a tall, blond and beautiful ex-model turned crop-duster who, to quote Lalla Bains, says: “I’ve been married so many times they oughta revolk my license.” I wanted to give readers a peek at the not so-perfect -life of a beautiful blond. Lalla Bains is no Danielle Steele character, she’s not afraid of chipping her manicure. Scratch that, the girl doesn’t have time for a manicure what with herding a bunch of recalcitrant pilots and juggling work orders just to keep her father’s flagging business alive. I enjoy writting with humor, and if you enjoy my books, I'd love to hear from you! Here's my e-mail: rp@rpdahlke.com

This mystery thriller will hold true to the saying of never judging a book by its cover. Homeless Billy Wayne Dobson would post snowflake poetry on Lalla Bains car. Upon his discovery in Mr. Kim's restaurant alley, his final words before dying in Lalla's presence with scissors stuck in his chest would be a hard puzzle piece to uncover. His words "The more there is the less you see" will take Aero-Ag Crop Duster Bains on a flight not wanted but a journey to uncover evidence over mysterious letters and "things" to find the real culprit who murdered Billy Dobson.

As suspect by suspect convinces you one way and then the other this highly intense mystery killing will keep you on the edge of your seat. Is Lalla Bains at the wrong place repeatedly or does her arrests and circumstances create a greater comprehensive picture? There will be many questions to ponder on as sneaky moves leave an unsettling feeling. As you uncover if the killer could be the restaurant owner himself, his daughter, or someone not too far from camp, Author R.P. Dahlke will skillfully toss you around like a rag doll with evidence hitting you on every turn.

Crime solvers- this is a must read to add insights into hearts and motives. Author Dahlke invites you to journey into her books in this series as well as previous and soon to be releases. I recommend this book with a high 5- star rating.

R.P. Dahlke grew up living the crop-dusting life in Modesto, California in the San Joaquin Valley. Her father owned and operated his own Aero Ag business for over thirty years. Today, her son has taken up the torch and flies crop-dusters in the same area. Dahlke is glad to write about it ... but not live it. She currently lives in Tucson, Arizona where she writes her very popular novels. She is a member of Sisters in Crime (the first president of the Cochise County chapter as well as the National chapter), Mystery Writers of America, The Society of Southwestern Authors, and the first president of the Cochise County Chapter of Sisters in Crime. She has seven books to her credit, of which this is the second in the series of the Dead Red Mysteries. And this is the third in the DEAD RED series this reviewer has read, and if anything further exposure makes the heart grow fonder - especially when Dahlke has added the arena of cardiac transplantation to the soup!

And so we meet up with our favorite heroine Lalla Bains, tall, blond and beautiful ex-model turned crop-duster from Modesto, California, and as usually the case Dahlke offers her own synopsis at the opening of her books- better written than any PR person: ` Lalla Bains is done with Billy Wayne's lovesick antics. The last straw comes when he litters her beloved red Cadillac with poetry scrawled on paper snowflakes, but that doesn't mean she wants the homeless war veteran to drop dead at her feet--with a pair of blue handled scissors sticking out of his chest. High fashion model turned aero-ag pilot, Lalla Bains certainly doesn't need any more distractions during the simmering summers in the San Joaquin Valley of California.

I love a good mystery and how can you go wrong with an ex-model turned crop duster as the main character? A Red Dead Heart by RP Dalke is the second in the series and it had me from the first chapter. It's witty, and intriguing.

Our main character Lalla Baines, has a secret admirer. So much so that he uses her red Cadillac as an outlet for his snowflake poetry, which is rather poetic itself. However, when Lalla finds him dead, she is perhaps to blame according to some since she was the unwanted love recipient. Not to mention she is the one who found him right by the red Cadillac with scissors sticking out of his chest.

I enjoyed the book as well as the characters. I also found out this is just one of the seven books available which means if you enjoy it like I did, there is plenty more to read!

I nabbed this as a freebie during a Kindle promotion, and was pleasantly surprised. The writing is clean and the story moves along at a decent pace. It's not really much of a whodunit, because the characters are fairly easy to figure out, but it is the interactions between the main character and the rest that keep moving the story along. There isn't a lot of plot but that is ok because this is a character-driven book, with good enough observations of the various participants to keep the interest.

I would buy more by the author, if the rest of the books are of this caliber. A light, pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

Typically me, I have come into this series with the second book, although luckily `A Dead Red Heart' works fine as a stand alone novel. It was quite easy to pick up the background of the character Lalla Bains and arrive at the situation in which we now find her. In fact, in no time at all, it felt as though I knew her personally, such is the strength and personality of the characterisation.

You have to know right from the start, that this romantic mystery also has its fair share of humour and nothing is meant to be taken too seriously, which is just as well given the quirky nature of the disparate group of characters which the author has created and brought to life, in such spectacular fashion.

That includes Lalla Bains herself. Someone more unsuited to her job as a crop duster, both in appearance and personality, you couldn't wish to find and even being au fait with her background and tarnished reputation, doesn't prepare you for her quirky dispostition and flamboyant personality. Mind you, you only have to look at Lalla's father to explain where some of her eccentricities might stem from and let's not mention her past private life! trouble just seems to follow the girl around like a bad smell!

It certainly doesn't look too good, that someone who is all set to marry one of the local police officers, should keep being discovered with all these dead bodies and involved in crime scenes, that she seems intent on solving single-handedly, much against her lover's wishes, although Caleb seems to have little, if any control, over this impatient and impetuous female, who is obviously addicted to danger, as well as to him.
